'Real Housewives' Kim Zolciak Croons a Cringe-Worthy Country Tune (LISTEN)

Kim ZolciakKim Zolciak, star of The Real Housewives of Atlanta, has gone country. In about two weeks, her new single "Love Me First" will hit the airwaves, or at least iTunes. It follows a slew of  painful singles like "Don't Be Tardy for the Party" and, though I didn't think it possible ... it's even worse.

At least "Don't Be Tardy for the Party" was laughable in its atrociousness. Kim's new song is just sadder than ... a bad country song. It actually doesn't even sound country. It sounds like she's doing karaoke, only sort of whispering it into a microphone that's turned up really high. It's pretty hard to describe; listen to a sample of it provided by TooFab for yourself after the jump:

The lyrics aren't bad, and she definitely took a more personal approach this time. This weekend she tweeted, "My new song is so emotional....the lyrics we wrote r abt my life & so true!!!"

I'm running on empty/can't let it defeat me/I'm standing here a stronger woman making changes in my life/Now I'm learning every day/there ain't no other way/before I love somebody else, gotta love me first.

Lovely, and I'm thrilled for her and the happiness she's found with Kroy Biermann and their new family. There's just one problem: Her voice. The fact is -- Kim can't sing. Love her or hate her, that's fact. Bible.

Country music fans are pretty forgiving (have you heard "Red Solo Cup" by Toby Keith?), but it will be interesting to see if they even recognize this as one of their own. Also interesting to watch for will be reactions from fellow Housewife Kandi Burruss, who produced Kim's first two songs, but not this one. I can take a pretty good guess at what it will be though.

Despite any criticism, however, Kim deserves credit for trying and for venturing into new territory. She's one of those people who makes us cringe with nearly every move she makes. From her chain-smoking, foul-mouthed ways to her boob-bearing outfits and scary wigs, she doth offend and outrage us, but somehow we still love her despite it all. So even if the song is a total flop, we know Kim will just pick herself up, grab a bottle of wine, and keep on doing her thing no matter what anyone thinks.

What do you think of Kim Zolciak's new song?
