Lana Del Rey's 'SNL' Coup Backfires Big Time (VIDEO)

Lana Del ReyNot many artists are able to snag an SNL appearance before they even release an album, but lucky Lana Del Rey did just that. The Internet sensation, who has wowed online viewers with her song "Video Games," got her big break last night. But she did anything but wow. In short, her performance was a big bomb.

After Daniel Radcliffe introduced her, I thought it might be a skit, because it was that bad. Her voice sound strangely low, and she was definitely off key. Unfortunately for her and for viewers, it wasn't supposed to be a joke. Watch for yourself and see what you think.

There's nerves, and then there's ... that. I thought maybe I just wasn't getting her appeal since I hadn't even heard of her until recently, but I wasn't the only one who was shocked at just how bad her performance was.

Juliette Lewis tweeted:

Wow watching this ‘singer’ on SNL is like watching a 12 yearold [sic] in their bedroom when theyre pretending to sing and perform #signofourtimes.

Ouch. Others weren't much kinder. From Perez Hilton:

Just watched SNL. Not only was @LanaDelRey vocally WAY off, but watching her utter lack of stage presence was cringe-worthy. #DontBuyTheHype

And on and on, the Twitterverse was full of slams from pretty much everyone who watched it. She did have a few signs of unwavering support, such as this tweet from someone named Pony Sparkles captured by The Hollywood Reporter that also pretty well sums up the performance: “i still love you lana del rey, my beautiful sedated zombie fembot ice princess.”

It's too bad really because what could have sent her record sales soaring very likely just did the exact opposite. I feel bad for her, but don't know how she can recover from such a big bomb and all the subsequent blasting she's taking. At least she looked good.

What did you think of Lana Del Rey's performance on SNL? Do you think this will be the end of her career?
