People's Choice Awards 2012: The Good, the Bad & the Annoying

Robert Pattinson and Betty WhiteThe stars tonight were big and bright at the 2012 People's Choice Awards. The fan-driven awards show is the first of the season and is always a good time. Tonight was no exception, though it was a little on the dull side.

Hosted by Kaley Cuoco, the night began a funny skit with her and her Big Bang Theory co-stars on the couch. That was followed by some dialogue with Neil Patrick Harris, who it seemed might be a surprise co-host, but instead it turned into a skit in which he just tried to hijack the show with his pull-away tuxedo and backup dancers. Then it was on with the show. Like always, there were highs and lows. Here were a few of the big ones:

Highs

Kaley Cuoco as host. I wouldn't say she made a big bang, but she's cute and fun and was enjoyable to watch.

Lea Michele winning favorite TV comedy actress. She beat out the likes of Tina Fey and the show's host, Kaley Cuoco. Talk about Glee power!

Jennifer Lawrence's dress. There was fishnet and major potential for a nip slip, but it was mesmerizing. The Hunger Games actress looked hot.

Kim Kardashian winning favorite reality TV star. Ha, take that, haters. The only bummer was she wasn't there to accept the award.

Standing ovation for Betty White. She's celebrating her 90th birthday next week, and is more amazing than ever.

Lows

Emma Stone's acceptance speech. She' s a great actress, and it was nice to see her win for favorite movie actress, but her speech was full of more cliches than one could count. "You have to stay true to yourself and don’t be afraid even though people might say that what you’re doing isn’t cool ... " Snore.

Demi Lovato's performance  With red lips, red hair, a red dress, and red shoes, Demi Lovato was not only a fashion mess, but her vocals were a disaster. Off-key and screechy, the whole performance was difficult to watch. But she's America's favorite pop artist, so she's got that going for her.

Adam Sandler's acceptance speech. Did anyone think that was funny?

Robert Pattinson's shaved head. His hair looks better long, but him next to Betty White was adorable.

Breaking Dawn Part 2 Trailer was a no show. We wanted to believe rumors that it would air tonight during the show, but alas, they were false. File that under annoying.

What highs and lows would you add to this list?
