‘Mama Drama’ Restores Hope for Future of Tasteless Reality Television

Mama DramaThere's a new reality show getting ready to hit the world with more outlandish, mouth-gaping antics, and in a word, it sounds: insane ... in the best possible sense of the word. It's called Mama Drama, and it's just what we need to restore some of the brilliance (e.g., train-wreck style entertainment you simply can NOT look away from) back to reality television.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the "docu-style social experiment" will follow five sets of mothers and daughters who live in a house together and party it up together. It features "moms who don’t want to grow up and their young adult daughters who they’d rather pal around with, than parent."

To answer your first question, no, Lindsay and Dina Lohan haven't been signed, but fear not. Judging by the promo pics in which none of them have on skirts that go more than an inch below their bums, it doesn't appear any of them are wallflowers.

Upping the potential even more is the fact that it's being produced by SallyAnn Salsano who brought us none other than Jersey Shore. We know she had basically no limits for how low she let things go there, so I'm fully expecting something just as bad ... or worse.

As she told THR:

With this show, I had the same experience I had in Jersey Shore [Season] 1. Where I couldn’t leave the control room because I could not believe what was happening before my eyes. At any second chaos could erupt, and most days it did.

Can. Not. Wait.

If you're the high-minded sort who thinks television like this is contributing to the moral downfall of this country, then I'm guessing this will tear you away from your efforts to boycott the Kardashians for a minute with new fury fueled in the direction of Mama Drama. And that's fine, to each his own remote and DVR.

For those of us who are loyal to the real roots of reality TV, however, this is the stuff of a revival. The Housewives are growing a little haggard; Jersey Shore quickly went south; even The Real World has lost its original luster. We need a new infusion of OMG-TV, and I think Mama Drama is just the show to do it.

The premiere is January 1 at 9 p.m. Eastern. What a way to ring in the new year!
