Latest 'Bachelor' Breakup Should Kill the Show for Good

Ali & RobertoAli and Roberto in happier times.Ali Fedotowsky and Roberto Martinez are dunzo. Raise your hand if you are surprised by their breakup? Anyone? Well, my hand is up!

The lyrics to Queen's "Another One Bites the Dust" are running through my head and yet I can't help but feel sorry for the couple and kick myself for thinking THEY would be different. What is it about this show that keeps on pulling me back?

Their success rate is abysmal. Think about it, only Trista Rehn and Ryan Sutter have actually made it to the altar. Jason Mesnick did as well, but not without a lot of drama. This is a show that has had a million chances to work and it basically never does. So why do we keep watching?

In the moment, it's entertaining, right? But I always feel just a little dirty. And even the "I am just watching people fall in love" excuse because, well, they aren't.

Seriously, the odds on The Bachelor are lower than if you went out in the street, found a hobo, and married him tomorrow. There is something about this show that is all wrong. In making good TV, the show seems to have forgotten what they were all about.

Truth be told, maybe they never really wanted it to be about love anyway. There is drama and intrigue and fighting and hatred. Maybe that is spicier than plain old boring vanilla love. But I don't think so.

Both Ali and Roberto are beautiful people and they will both find love. Hell, I wish I were single for Roberto! But she gave up her job, her life, and everything else to find "love" on The Bachelorette. Maybe once she got there, she realized it wasn't love she wanted at all. Maybe it was fame.

So now she is famous, but she has no love. This show is a crock. And maybe after 10 years, it's time to say goodbye. Or maybe we will all just keep on getting fooled time and again.

But I hope not. Let's hope Ben Flajnik has better luck or that Ashley Hebert and JP Rosenbaum really stick it out because this is getting old fast.

Did this breakup surprise you?
