Elisabeth Hasselbeck Needs to Learn to Take a Joke (VIDEO)

Bill Mahr and Elizabeth HasselbeckWe knew Elisabeth Hasselbeck was judgy, but today we learned just how grudgy she is too. When Bill Maher appeared on The View today, she spent the entire segment grilling him over something he said almost a year ago. Something that was a JOKE.

Today's segment started out with Maher talking about the whole Sandusky scandal. Maher said that any institution without women -- like the church or sports -- is destined for problems, because men need women to keep them in line. Once he dropped the word "women," Elisabeth saw her opportunity to avenge her grudge, and pounced.

The comment that had her all riled was one he made in the wake of the horrific sexual assault of Lara Logan, the chief foreign correspondent for CBS News, this past February. Maher said afterward: "New rule: now that Hosni Mubarak has released Lara Logan, he must put her intrepid hotness on a plane immediately. In exchange, we will send Elisabeth Hasselbeck."

Funny? Not really. Pushing it? Probably. But does it really warrant a public lashing almost an entire year later? Absolutely not. But lash him she did.

"You can't sit here right now and tell me I'm wrong for saying, 'That wasn't that funny,'" she said. Maher was clearly uncomfortable but did a good job explaining his role as a comedian and basic freedom of speech principles. "You are a public figure. It was not aimed at you personally, but when you are a public figure, you are out there and you're fodder for comedians to make comments on."

Elisabeth did a good job painting herself as even more uptight than she's already viewed to be. And I typically actually like Elisabeth, as unpopular as that opinion may be. But today she just looked childish and ridiculous; her co-hosts, not so surprisingly, didn't back her up at all.

Joy Behar talked about how as comedians they "walk the ledge." Even Barbara Walters tried to get Elisabeth to buck up by recounting how she's endured years of "Babawawa."

Elisabeth wasn't about to back down, though. Even after the conversation had seemingly moved on to other topics, like Herman Cain and Rick Perry, she just wouldn't give Maher a break. After he made a derogatory comment about the Republican party, she snapped, "Really? 'Cuz you're so brilliant, wow, I actually feel smarter sitting next to you."

Maher replied: "Really? 'Cuz I feel like I'm in high school sitting next to you." And the round went to Maher. Here's the segment if you want to judge for yourself:

Do you think Elisabeth Hasselbeck overreacted to Bill Maher's comments from February?
