'DWTS' Results Recap: Was Len Goodman Right About Nancy Grace?

Nancy GraceThe thing about Dancing With the Stars is that, no matter who ends up on the bottom – and who at the tippy top -- of the leader board at the end of the performance shows, you really never know which contestant will be deprived of his or her mirror-ball-trophy dreams on results night and sent packing.

After Monday night's show a full 16 points separated the J.R. Martinez and partner Karina Smirnoff, who had earned two perfect scores and ended the night with 60 out of 60 points, and Nancy Grace and her long-suffering partner, Tristan MacManus, who had only 44 points rattling around their pockets like so much loose change. Somewhere in between lurked Ricki Lake and Derek Hough; Rob Kardashian and Cheryl Burke; and Hope Solo and Maksim Chmerkovskiy.

Yet truly, at the beginning of Tuesday night's results show, it seemed like it could have been anyone's game ...

Had Grace's remarkably devoted fans gotten out the votes to save her? Would Martinez's voting bloc deem him to be safe and slack off, putting him in jeopardy? And what about the others?

After a show in which the hilarious DanceCenter guys (Kenny Mayne, Jerry Rice and Len Goodman) made us chuckle and guffaw despite the tension, and everyone from Andrea Bocelli to Flo Rida to Jordin Sparks to Cirque du Soleil and (if my eyes weren't mistaken) the one-legged ghost of Michael Jackson performed, we got our answer …

Yes! Goodman had been right after all. Grace's time at the ball had, indeed, come to an end. And Kardashian, whom the DanceCenter guys quipped had lasted on the show longer than his sister Kim's marriage, would stick around to dance another day, competing with Martinez, Lake, and Solo in next week's semifinals.

To be fair, Grace took the news with a certain amount of … well … grace. She thanked her dance partner. She thanked her family. She thanked the DWTS cast and crew. She even thanked the fans who'd kept her around way longer than anyone had imagined.

Nicely handled departure, Nancy. I'm sure those cute twins will be happy to have you back home.

Are you sad to see Nancy Grace go?
