Brody Jenner & Avril Lavigne Attack Adds to Kardashian Family Heartache

Brody Jenner and Avril LavigneAs emotionally tumultuous as the whole divorce debacle between Kim Kardashian and Kris Humphries has been for their family and friends, this weekend, the family faced an even more serious situation. Early Sunday morning, Brody Jenner, stepbrother to the Kardashian sisters, was out with his girlfriend, Avril Lavigne, when they were reportedly attacked.

According to TMZ, the couple was partying at the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel Saturday evening when they become involved in a fight with five people. Avril's face got pretty banged up, and Brody -- trying to come to her aid -- was bashed in the head with a beer bottle. The scene sounded brutal.

Avril recounted for the site:

I don't fight. I don't believe in it. To clear things up I got attacked by 5 people last night out of nowhere. Not cool. My face is f**ked. As in black eye, bloody nose, hair ripped out, scratches, bruises and cuts. So not ok to be abusive to others. Violence is NEVER the answer.

Fortunately, they seem to be okay, suffering just cuts and scrapes that required a few stitches, but this is so not what this family needs to be dealing with right now. While there's no word yet as to what caused the altercation, you have to wonder if it had anything to do with Kim and Kris's split, seeing as how it's blanketed the news as of late. Even it didn't, it just adds to all the stress the family surely is facing.

As much as I find Kris Jenner overbearing and a bit obnoxious and Bruce Jenner annoying, I really feel for them now. Even if Kim's marriage was perhaps done more for dollars than true love, I'm sure the whole thing isn't without any emotion. Plus, the wrath their family has faced as of late can't be easy under any circumstances. Add to that the terror of having your son and his girlfriend bloodied by strangers, and I can't imagine it's a good time to be a Kardashian.

So Kardashian fan or not, it's hard not feel at least a little sympathy for them. Sure they asked for this tidal wave of fame and have made a lot of money riding on it, but they're still real people and no one deserves to be viciously attacked -- especially physically -- and no one wants to see a family suffer.

I'd love to see them all just retreat for at least a little while. To decline interviews, lay low, and try to figure things out and move on. I doubt that will happen since they are after all Kardashians, but perhaps this incident will make them see the light and stay out it for at least a little while.

Do you think this attack was related to Kim Kardashian's divorce from Kris Humphries?
