Jill Zarin Has Nosy But Good Advice for Taylor Armstrong (VIDEO)

jill zarin real housewives of new yorkJill ZarinSurprise (not-so-big), surprise: Jill Zarin is up to her yenta ways again and sticking her nose into other people's business. The recently axed real housewife went on Good Morning America today to speak about her four-year run on The Real Housewives of New York. Of course, she did a lot more than that when she lent some personal advice to RHOBH housewife Taylor Armstrong:

"Honestly, I wouldn't talk to the press or anyone for six months to a year," Zarin said. "I would buckle down with my family, and I probably wouldn't come back on the show."

While a little part of me wants to totally be like, "Who is Jill Zarin to give Taylor Armstrong advice of when to stay out of the spotlight?" I've got to admit, she's sort of right. Could departing from the Housewives insanity be exactly what both she AND Taylor need?

In Taylor's case, I think if she doesn't get out of the spotlight, she'll regret it. During a time of grief while also coming to terms with past spousal abuse and being present for her now fatherless daughter, the last thing she needs is others criticizing how she is handling something that has absolutely nothing to do with them. I find it hard to watch Taylor going through the hardships of this season week to week, and I don't even know the woman. I can't even imagine how she must feel reliving it all.

Zarin describes being on Housewives as a "toxic environment." She was constantly fighting with the other women, which led to bouts of hysterics and unhappiness. For Armstrong, there's no doubt in my mind that the show contributed to the immense amount of tension and dysfunction between her and her then-husband Russell Armstrong during Season 1 of RHOBH, which ultimately culminated in the demise of their marriage, as well as Russell's suicide. As much as I and gajillions of women everywhere love reality TV, scenarios like Taylor's make me question the show's actual worth.

It's clear from this morning's interview that at least Zarin's off to bigger and better things without it. Maybe, just maybe, the Real Housewives era is past its peak.
