'Keeping Up With the Kardashians' Finale Recap: The Problem With the Proposal

Kardashian ProposalLike most viewers of the season finale of Keeping Up With the Kardashians tonight, I'm still smiling/wiping a few tears from my eyes after watching Kris Humphries propose to Kim Kardashian. There were candles, rose petals spelling out "Will You Marry Me?", and a brief, but clear popping of the question followed by an enthusiastic "yes" from Kim (which notably came after a quick perusal of the mega rock).

It was sweet and sentimental, even if it was a little scripted-feeling. But it could have been better had Kris not made one fatal flaw in his proposal strategy.

Why did he have to involve Kris Jenner in the whole thing? That woman has way too much control over Kim's life anyway; she didn't need to have her fingers in this too. It was sweet and respectful that Kris H. asked Bruce Jenner for Kim's hand, but they really didn't need to go and tell Kris J. (And yes, the whole Kris and Kris thing is already annoying.)

Once they did tell her, it -- of course -- became her project with all her stupid code words (just how is Kim a Cinderella story anyway? I've never seen her scrubbing any floors) and expectations. Plus, I'm convinced she probably told Kim in some round-about kind of way what was happening. I can see her thinking it best so that Kim look just right, not be too overwhelmed, or whatever. And really, Kim did not seem that surprised when she walked in to see Kris down on one knee. My guess: Her mama gave her a head's up that it was coming.

I suppose in the end it doesn't really matter, it's just annoying that Kris Jenner is so overly involved, and Kris Humphries may have opened the door to a lifetime of her over intrusiveness. Not that he could stop her anyway.

At least the rest of the Kardashian/Jenner clan seemed genuinely surprised when Kim started flashing her ring around. It was actually pretty funny when Kris H. told them all it was joke when it wasn't, and mass confusion ensued. Once they got it all straightened out, however, it was all happiness, joy, and miniature ponies for the newly engaged couple. Even Kris Jenner's involvement in the whole affair couldn't spoil it.

The most disturbing part of the night, however, was the realization that there won't be any Kardashians filling our Sunday nights for some time now. We're used to an endless rotation of the family with all the spin-off shows, but, alas, there's nothing new until next month when the big wedding special airs. Can you say withdrawal?

What did you think of how Kris Humphries proposed to Kim Kardashian?
