'Real Housewives of New York' Should Just Start Over

Ramona SingerLast season The Real Housewives of New York provided some of the meanest, most immature behavior in Housewives history -- and that's saying a LOT when it comes to Housewives. The fights were old, petty, vicious, and ridiculous. After the knock-down, drag-out two-part reunion, viewers were left wondering just where these women could go from there ... and if we (hardcore fans included) have any desire really to watch them go anywhere but away.

Bravo seems to be having some similar hesitations as to where RHWNY will go next, and a recent announcement that production has been delayed makes me wonder just what they have up their sleeves. They were originally slated to start filming around Labor Day, but it has repeatedly been pushed back, and now may not happen until October. Whatever will these ladies do without the cameras?

There's plenty of speculation that the delay has to do with the suicide of Russell Armstrong, and that Bravo needs all of its manpower to edit season two of The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills. Perhaps that's true, but I also wonder if they aren't considering scrapping the whole current crew of the New York Housewives -- Jill Zarin, Ramona Singer, Alex McCord, LuAnn de Lesseps, Kelly Bensimon, and Sonja Morgan -- and looking to cast new blood.

There have been plenty of rumors about individual cast members leaving -- Cindy Barshop for one, but that doesn't count as she wasn't really there in the first place. Other reports say Jill Zarin is leaving/has been booted, but she has shot them down as untrue. Personally I think axing them all and starting over is the way to go.

Let's face it, the current ladies are getting old ... in more ways than one. And while I have a soft spot for Ramona and think Sonja is a blast, I'm not sure any of them has a whole lot more to offer on the show. I don't think I can take another season of Jill and her nasally nonsense, and I certainly can't take any more LuAnn and her music or her creepy romance with Jacques. Don't even get me started on Kelly's mind-blowing bizarreness. So rather than run the franchise into the ground, let's start over. There are certainly plenty of other interesting housewives (who might actually be wives) in New York; let's see what they've got.

The only problem here -- they better hurry up or we're going to have a big Housewives hole. If Beverly Hills is delayed, New York hasn't even started filming, and D.C. and Miami don't seem to be coming back, we're going to have a pretty raging case of Real Housewives withdrawal on our hands if something doesn't start happening. And no one wants to see that.

Are you anxious to see the next season of The Real Housewives of New York? Do you wish they'd scrap the current cast and bring in some new blood?
