Sarah Palin's Hair Salon Show Is New Reality TV Low

Were you under the assumption that you'd seen every terrible reality show concept that television can possibly deliver? Oh ho HO, my friend, let me assure you how very, very wrong you were. TLC, the network that has contributed such cultural gems as Toddlers and Tiaras, My Strange Addiction, Hoarding: Buried Alive, and I Didn't Know I Was Pregnant, has yet another reality trick up its decidedly lowbrow sleeve.

Get ready for Big Hair Alaska on September 20, folks. It's a show about a hair salon in Wasilla, Alaska—but not just any Alaskan hair salon, mind you. The salon is named "The Beehive," and they're the proud creators of Sarah Palin's famous updo.

Man, where's Joel McHale when you need him? Because I don't even know where to get started with this.

According to the TLC press release, "[The show] goes inside a busy hair salon in Wasilla, Alaska, where the personalities of the owner and her staff are as big as the hairstyles they create." Apparently Big Hair Alaska will be a two-part series, which is a relief to hear because I am certain that ONE episode would not be nearly enough.

Taking a peek at the Beehive website, I see that they offer some really in-depth hairstyling tips, such as the advice to try a round brush when blow-drying your hair. Shut the front door, really? Wow, I don't know about you but I am setting my TiVo right now—I don't want to miss a single piece of advice from the experts! I sure hope they teach us how to copy Sarah Palin's style, too, because I've secretly always wanted my hair to extend above the top of my head by at least four or five inches.

I shouldn't even be surprised about reality show announcements anymore, but my god, they just keep getting worse and worse. Judging by the plethora of documentary-style TV shows and recycled movie franchises, most people have lost any interest in original scripts or creative storytelling. A show like Arrested Development or Firefly gets cancelled, but Sarah Palin's hair salon collects an entertainment paycheck? THERE IS SOMETHING TERRIBLY WRONG WITH OUR WORLD, PEOPLE.

In fact, I'm not really sure TLC stands for The Learning Channel anymore. The Lamest Crap, maybe?

What do you think about Big Hair Alaska? Do you think you'll give it a try?
