Julianne Moore as Sarah Palin: I Can See It, But I Don't Want To

Say it isn't so: Julianne Moore is going to play Sarah Palin in an upcoming HBO film? Where can a Moore fan repudiate this depressing casting choice? I feel like someone has misunderestimated Moore's talents in this decision to morph her into the you-betcha-ing hockey mama-bear.

Or perhaps upestimated is the right word, which, like Palin, I have invented in the name of Shakespeare and living languages. (Don't like it? Wee-wee up, will you?) I love Julianne Moore, but my ears are still bleeding from that atrocious Boston accent she kept trotting out in her recurring 30 Rock role. I'm not sure I want to hear what she'll do with Palin's distinctively folksy speech pattern.

As for looks, yeah, I can see Moore as Palin. She's got the cheekbones, and the acting chops to morph her face as needed. But OH, the tragedy of Palinizing that glorious red hair.

You know who I think would have been a better choice? Mariska Hargitay. Or ooh, ooh, wait, I have a better one: Megan Mullally.

Man, why aren't I a famous Hollywood casting director? IT IS A MYSTERY TO ME TOO.

(If you're wondering why Tina Fey wasn't chosen, apparently this isn't intended to be a caricature role. That ought to be a ... challenge, don't you think?)

We're likely to hear some more interesting actor choices in this film, since roles still open include McCain, Hillary Clinton and President Barack Obama, among others. (Pssst, Hollywood: Richard Dreyfuss, Hope Davis, and Chiwetel Ejiofor. You're welcome.)

What do you think about Julianne Moore as Sarah Palin?
