'Golden Voiced' Ted Williams Arrested? Is the Feel-Good Story Going Bad?

What happened between Ted Williams and his daughter on Monday night at the Renaissance Hollywood Hotel & Spa? There's no way to be certain, but police filed a disturbance report after the two got into a heated argument.

The media initially reported that Williams was arrested, but according to a Los Angeles police officer, "It was minor. Both parties were angry but there were no signs of visible abuse." They were both held at a Hollywood police station for less than an hour then released.

Ted Williams' side of the story is that his 29-year-old daughter, Janey, hit him during an altercation. He told Entertainment Tonight,

"I wanted to bring it to a close by just saying 'shut the hell up and let me talk to your mother.' When that was said out of my mouth my daughter exploded, just erupted into this jump up in my face type of thing, fists got a' flying, none of which were mine, none of which were mine, but it could have escalated to the point where it could have gotten really ugly. So in the process of doing that, I got scratched on my face."

As for Janey Williams, she says Ted went on a violent rampage, calling her a "fat [expletive]." She also claims Ted, a recovering alcoholic and drug addict, has resumed drinking.

"He has consumed at least a bottle of Grey Goose a night. That's not including the Coronas he ordered, that's not including the Budweisers he ordered, the other alcohol, the wines. He drinks heavily."

Ted Williams denied to ET that he had been drinking.

Williams was in town to tape appearances on the Dr. Phil show and Entertainment Tonight. The two-part Dr. Phil features a reunion with his ex-wife, Patricia, and five of his nine children.

I've had a bad feeling about this story from the start, despite the obvious positive aspects of it all. I have no idea if he's really drinking or who was to blame for Monday's dust-up, but I doubt this is the last we'll hear of Ted Williams' troubles. The media is pushing too hard to milk everything they can from his life, even if that includes family issues that should be resolved behind closed doors.

I believe the best thing that could happen to Ted Williams would be for him to fade from public eye (and yes, I realize the irony of writing this article) and try to quietly enjoy the benefits that have been passed his way. What do you think?

**Update** I'm just seeing reports that Ted is en route to rehab right now.
