'Glee' Rocky Horror Episode: Who's the Transvestite?

Glee Rocky Horror
Kurt looks freakishly like Riff Raff
Knowing that the entire Glee "Rocky Horror Picture Show" episode idea came from Chris Colfer (aka Kurt Hummel), I was expecting our favorite little gay crooner to take on the iconic role of Dr. Frank-N-Furter.

But it's not meant to be. Instead, he'll be playing Riff Raff, the creepy hunchback who he eerily looks exactly like after an hour and a half of hair and makeup.

So if Kurt isn't going to play the most famous transvestite, who is?

Will Rachel take the spotlight as always? Or maybe the new guy Sam to show his wide range of skills?

Nope, actually Dr. Frank-N-Furter will be played by:

Obviously, they're not going for an exact replica here, so I think Mercedes is a fabulous choice. Glee music producer Adam Anders reminds us that this episode is "an ode to the original" rather than a remake: "We freshen it up a little bit."

There were rumors floating around that John Stamos was going to take on the iconic role, but FOX wasn't thrilled with the idea of Uncle Jesse dancing around in fishnet stockings and a corset. Thank god for FOX execs -- that image would have forever ruined my Full House-obsessed childhood.

I'm eager to see how Amber Riley does with playing a female character who plays a male character, who is pretending to be a female (whew, that just sounds complicated). Some folks are in a tizzy about Tim Curry's role being played by a woman, since, for the most part, transvestites are men. But this isn't the first time a female has taken on a transsexual role. Felicity Hoffman had an Academy Award-nominated and Golden Globe-winning performance for her role as Bree in the 2005 flick Transamerica, and one of the most ground-breaking surgeries on the show Nip/Tuck was a sex reassignment surgery in Season 3 to make Avery into Ava, played by Famke Janssen.

So girlfriend, show us your sweet transvestite self!

Are you excited for tonight's Rocky Horror episode? Think Mercedes is a good choice for Dr. Frank-N-Furter?
