Curse of The Real Housewives

Vicki Gunvalson

It's been more than four years since the world was first introduced to The Real Housewives.

Starting in Orange County, we've watched them multiply across the country and mutate in their drama.

At first we chalked up their tumultuous lives to that of good casting. After all, no one wants to watch people with perfect lives (though those who want to pretend they're fun), and not many "normal" people would actually subject themselves to such a show.

But what's becoming more and more clear as the seasons and the slayed lives continue is it's not the doing of casting -- it's the CURSE.

The Curse of The Real Housewives is a force so strong, few can escape it without being scathed in some manner. It's quick and cruel and will try to take down anyone who dares bare the title of Real Housewife.

The evidence:

Marriages Marred

The latest in a long string of marriage casualties is Vicki Gunvalson from the The Real Housewives of Orange County who is divorcing her husband Donn after 16 years of marriage. And just when it looked like things were going to work out for them last season.

Actually, from the original series in Orange County, there are virtually NO houseWIVES left ... they have almost all divorced. From Jeana Keough and Tamra Barney in the O.C. to Cat Ommanney in D.C., Housewives' marriages fail faster the Salahis' credibility when they open their mouths.

NeNe in Atlanta appears to be headed toward divorce court. And new allegations about Joe Giudice's sleazy "secret double life" with hordes of women isn't a real strong sign for his marriage to Teresa either.

Friendships Fail

Just this past weekend at a wrap party for the next season of the O.C., one-time BFFs Tamra Barney and Jeana Keough got into a brawl as did Teresa Giudice with relatives of the new Jersey housewife, Melissa Gorga.

Of course there was the major breakup between Bethenny Frankel and Jill Zarin. And while Michaele Salahi and Lynda Erkiletian were said to be friendly for years before the show, now they can barely look at each other.

Bankruptcy Beckons

Almost all the New Jersey ladies have shown signs of going broke. Michaele and Tareq Salahi can't produce evidence that they have a dime, and their vineyard has been through bankruptcy.

Also, Lisa Wu Hartwell, who appeared on the first season in Atlanta, lost her mansion to the bank.

Sanity Slips

Danielle Staub. Kelly Bensimon. The Salahis. Enough said.

Cursed, I tell you, all of them ... except for Bravo who has found a magic formula for drawing in viewers to watch them crumble.

What evidence do you see of the Housewives being cursed?
