'True Blood' Recap: More Gore Than Ever Before

true bloodFor a show with "blood" in the title, I am not sure I remember an episode of True Blood with quite so much of the red stuff in it.

It was all over the floor after Lorena (Mariana Klaveno) attacks Bill all night, all over Tara's (Rutina Wesley) face after she beats Jackson to death, and all over the faces of the werewolves who sucked it out of Bill (Stephen Moyer).

Episode 6 of Season 3 was a bloody, painful episode, and that is not even touching on the cliffhanger ending when Lorena attacks Sookie Stackhouse (Anna Paquin), blaming her for Bill lying broken and bloodied on the floor of the King's slave quarters.

In addition to the gore, the episode was full of intrigue: Is Sam Merlotte's (Sam Trammell) father pimping Tommy out as a fighting pit bull? Was Eric serious when he told Sookie he has never cared for a human? And why is Crystal so jumpy about allowing Jason Stackhouse (Ryan Kwanten) to woo her (besides the fact that she has a redneck, gay-bashing fiance)?

This season is stacking (get it? "stacking"?) up to be the best so far. It is sexy and sensual and very, very violent in a way past seasons were not. (Episode 3 of this season where Bill turns Lorena's head during violent sex? Whoa.)

Bill is turning out to be quite the bad ass, which I did not see in past seasons with all his gentleman, Southern ways. Last year, I was very Team Eric (Alexander Skarsgard), but this year, I am seeing the edge in Bill Compton and am liking what I see (despite head-twisting sex, which I forgive because I hate Lorena).

Sadly, it seems for Sookie, loving Bill Compton may prove to be fatal (I highly doubt it, though). One of the big questions of the night was why Bill was keeping a "file" on Sookie and her family, detailing the history of her telepathy, but also her strange "light from the hands" power that is yet unnamed and seemingly unable to be harnessed or used on command.

This episode was rife with delicious male eye candy, which I would be remiss to not mention. Hot Lafayette and Jesus shared a couple of sexy kisses, but that ended after Jesus discovered Lafayette's moonlight gig.

Meanwhile, Eric smoldered with knowing glances. It seems the more disloyal he is, the more he inspires lust in my heart. And also, we saw far too little of Sookie's hot werewolf protector Alcide (Joe Manganiello). As someone who has a fetish for very tall, built men and horror fare, True Blood is truly rocking my world this season. And it only seems to be gathering momentum.

Who do you think is the hottest? Is the violence this season turning you off?
