‘Pretty Little Liars’ Kill a Mocking Girl

pretty little liars cast

Things are really getting interesting on the show Pretty Little Liars, the ABC Family show that all revolves around the disappearance of a 16-year-old girl, Alison, from a slumber party a year ago.

I didn't watch the "To Kill a Mockingirl" episode -- judging from some of the recaps out there, there are some pretty interesting plot lines developing, but none of them seems to have anything to do with issues of racial injustice and the destruction of innocence. Why would they? Because that's what the Pulitzer Prize-winning novel by Harper Lee, after the name play used for the episode title, was all about. So I figured there would be something even semi-related to that theme.

Am I missing it? Maybe it's the high school girls sleeping with their teachers and the extra-marital affairs. I guess you could argue that at least one of those things involves a destruction of innocence.

Here are some other bits from the show that might qualify:

-- Spencer gets writers' block on her paper and decides to steal one of Melissa's papers and make it her own.

-- Hanna decides to pull Sean from a foosball game at a party and finally make him a man. But he doesn't want to do it. She pouts and demands to know what is his deal, but he just explains that Hanna is acting like a desperate groupie, which is turning him off.

-- Emily leaves the shower at school and hears a noise in the locker room. Before she can find out the culprit, Emily is surprised by Ben, who wants to take things to the next level. Emily says no, but Ben thinks "no means yes" and advances. When Emily finally gets Ben off of her, he is attacked by Toby Cavanaugh, Jenna's step-brother, who kicks Ben's a**.

Is that it? The potential rape scene?
