‘Jersey Couture’ Premiere Recap: Not the Garden State’s Most Compelling Crop of Characters

Seeing the success of Jersey Shore and The Real Housewives of New Jersey, did Oxygen really have any choice but to get in on the Jersey action?

So comes the latest portrayal of life in the oh-so-fascinating Garden State: Jersey Couture.

I didn't expect a whole lot from the series, so I wasn't particularly surprised when I didn't get it. It's like TLC's Say Yes to the Dress, but with more accents, bigger hair, less tact, and more (way more) tackiness ... and much less drama.

The show's three main characters are Diane (the mother), Kimberly (the oldest daughter and mother of a baby), and Chrissy, who has bucked all family tradition by moving out of her parents' home. They are a likable but boring bunch.

Together, they run Diane & Co., a dress shop that's out to glitter and glorify the East Coast. Of her mother's jostling hands-on approach to dress fittings, Diane says, "She can make big ones look small, saggy ones look perky ... any type of boobies you want, she gets the job done."

A compelling promise, but not so compelling that I'll be glued to the TV for the next episode?

Did you watch Jersey Couture? If so, what were your thoughts about this week's episode?
