Missing Connecticut Mom's Bloody Clothes & Bra Found in Trash Can Her Estranged Husband Used

More than two months after Connecticut mom Jennifer Farber Dulos mysteriously vanished, police still don't know exactly what happened to her. According to a new report from the The Hartford Courant, however, a gruesome discovery is helping them get closer to an answer. Bloody clothes belonging to Dulos were reportedly found in a trash bin several days after she went missing on May 24 -- the same ones she's believed to have been wearing the morning she disappeared.

  • The bloody clothes, which included a Vineyard Vines T-shirt she was last seen wearing and a bra, were found discarded in a Hartford trash can.

Along with them were some mops and sponges -- both of which had traces of Dulos' blood on them, cops said.

As for what led investigators to the trash bin? Apparently, it was video surveillance, which captured Dulos' estranged husband, Fotis Dulos, disposing of several black garbage bags around the city of Hartford shortly after his wife's disappearance. It didn't take long for investigators to follow what's believed to be a damning trail of evidence left by Fotis Dulos.

  • The mom of five was last seen driving her Chevy Suburban the morning of May 24, but when she failed to show up for meetings, friends grew worried.

They reported her missing, and just hours later, Farber Dulos' Suburban was found abandoned at a park just three miles from her home. The 50-year-old mother, however, was nowhere to be found.

In fact, Farber Dulos' last known contact with friends was over text that morning, shortly after she dropped off her children at school. What happened in the hours that followed became a question that would gnaw at investigators.

  • According to the Hartford Courant, a search of Dulos' home immediately showed signs of foul play.

There were bloodstains on the garage floor and attempts to clean the garage. And here's what raised even more alarm bells: Jennifer Dulos was in the midst of bitter divorce with Fotis Dulos -- one that was tied up in a contentious custody battle over the couple's five children.

That alone made cops zero in on her husband, especially when they dove deeper into the details of the couple's feud.

  • The two-year divorce battle began in June 2017, when Jennifer Dulos sought full custody of her children and said she feared for their safety and hers.

Her reason, court records show, was that she'd grown afraid of her estranged husband's volatile temper and the fact that he had a gun.

I am afraid of my husband,” Jennifer Dulos said in a court filing, according to the Hartford Courant. “He is dangerous and ruthless when he believes that he has been wronged. During the course of our marriage, he told me about sickening revenge fantasies and plans to cause physical harm to others who have wronged him."

Although a judge initially imposed a shared custody agreement, that was later reneged when Fotis Dulos violated the terms. Not only did he introduce his children to his new girlfriend, Michelle Troconis, but he instructed his oldest son to lie about it.

At the time of Jennifer Dulos' disappearance, her estranged husband was limited to seven-hour visits with his children, every other weekend.

  • In June, both Dulos and Traconis were taken into custody and charged with evidence tampering and hindering prosecution.

Both have been released on bond as they await trial, and investigators continue to search for the missing mom, whose body has still not been found.

"As this remains an active and dynamic investigation, no comment will be provided on any evidence that has been collected nor will information be provided regarding the results of any forensic testing," a department spokesperson said in a statement, according to CBS Local.

Dulos, who has spoken out publicly in his own defense, continues to maintain his innocence. And incredibly, his own lawyer has suggested that his wife staged her own disappearance.

  • Meanwhile, their five children continue to be cared for by her mother, Gloria Farber.

According to the Stamford Advocate, a judge ruled that the maternal grandmother has shown a strong “parent-like relationship” with all five of the children, who range in age from 8 to 13 and have been staying in her care at her New York City apartment since their mother disappeared. Despite the anguish and heartache they must feel right now, a guardian ad litem appointed by the court recently reported that they are healthy, well cared for, and doing the best they can under the circumstances.
