We might need to turn the lights on to watch this one! A new trailer for Zac Efron's true crime movie just dropped, and it's safe to say the happy and sweet guy we loved in all those High School Musical films is gone as he takes on the role of a notorious serial killer.

  • Zac becomes Ted Bundy in the upcoming Netflix movie Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil, and Vile.

Ted Bundy was an infamous murderer who confessed to killing 30 people in multiple states in his late 20s and early 30s. He escaped from prison (twice), assaulting and killing more people before he was recaptured and eventually executed.

  • We've seen a previous trailer for the film that had a bit of humor and showed how popular Ted Bundy was.

Ted Bundy is still so popular, the director of the Ted Bundy Tapes addressed the true crime allure and why people can't seem to get enough of this serial killer.

"We're in this explosion right now of true crime media. People can't seem to get enough of it," Joe Berlinger told Newsweek about the modern-day popularity of true crime stories. "From Serial to Making a Murderer, American viewers seem to have an insatiable appetite for true crime programming."

  • But this is darker and shows a sinister side of Zac Efron we're not used to seeing.

Zac plays this role so well we're kinda scared to look at him should we pass him in the street -- and that's saying something, 'cause he's a hottie.

  • People are kind of freaked out and are curious to see what this film has to offer.

    YouTube comments

Judging by the comments, people are ready to see Zac Efron take on this serial killer role and think it only reiterates how awesome of an actor he is.

    (He's definitely playing against type.)

  • Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil, and Vile is set to drop on Netflix May 3.

We might need a minute after seeing this one.

    It looks super creepy!
