Two parents from Laredo, Texas, are facing criminal charges after police found a horrifying piece of evidence that alerted authorities to the the death of their daughter. After getting an anonymous tip, police discovered that the parents had allegedly placed their 3-year-old daughter's body in a five-gallon container of acid. The only found the decomposing remains after searching the home and have since arrested the girl's parents in connection with this savage crime

  • Police received a tip about the couple on Thursday from a neighbor who reported possible hazardous materials coming from an apartment nearby.

The call came in about 1:30 p.m. and police quickly rushed to the home of Monica Dominguez, 37, and Gerardo Zavala-Loredo, 32, according to KGNS. Fox News reported that police finally obtained a warrant about 5 p.m., which is when they entered the home and found a five-gallon container in the parents' closet. The container was reportedly filled with acid and inside the chemical solution was the body of Dominguez and Zavala's 3-year-old daughter, Rebecca.

  • Dominguez told authorities that originally the toddler had drowned in the bathtub while taking an unsupervised bath.

But instead of burying Rebecca's body or reporting the death to police, the mom claimed that she asked her husband to help her dispose of the body. Authorities said they will examine the girl's body to determine if she had any injuries before her death.

“We are now going to rely on the forensic evidence … to examine the remains of the body to determine if there are any injuries consistent with a possible, with a possible murder,” a police officer said in a press conference Friday.

  • Both parents were arrested and have since been charged with evidence tampering, endangering a child, and abuse of a corpse.

Dominguez had a previous probation charge against her from an injury to child case, and Zavala-Loredo has an immigration hold because he is not a legal United States citizen, according to ABC 7Fox News reported that the couple has four other children, ages 1 to 11, that have since been given to Child Protective Services.

Laredo and Webb County District Attorney Isidro Alaniz spoke to ABC 13 about the violent crime and highlighted how gruesome the scene was when police responded to the call. "As you can imagine, it's very difficult for all of us in law enforcement and for the first responders to be in a situation to come across a scene like we did yesterday," Alaniz said.

For now, both parents remain in jail while the case is being investigated, and a judge has set their bail: Dominguez is being held on a $175,000 bond, whereas her husband is being held on $125,000 bond.
