When we talk about co-parenting, we usually focus on divorced couples or stepparents, but this polyamorous "throuple" might change the way we view multi-parent families forever. They recently opened up about their relationship on Megyn Kelly's daytime show and revealed that they are raising three kids together. Now, people are calling them "disturbing" and "sleazy." But the details of their lives together prove their family is a lot more "normal" than some like to think.

Adam Lyons, Brooke Shedd, and Jane Shalakhova are three people in one relationship.

Their meet-cute was similar to most couples'. Despite what haters might think, there were no Fifty Shades of Grey–esque sex clubs or '60s hippie communes. Shedd and Lyons met at a night club and got together while keeping their relationship open. Shortly after that, they met Shalakhova, fell in love, and settled down. Both Shalakhova and Shedd identify as bisexual.

In an interview on Megyn Kelly Today, the "throuple" shared that they've been committed to each other for going on six years. "I have a relationship with Adam, I have a relationship with Jane. And the three of us have a relationship together," Shedd told Kelly. "They each provide things for me in that relationship that the other one can't, and I think that's why it is so fulfilling."

In addition to living a super normal life running a business, doing chores, and enjoying nerdy hobbies, the trio is also raising three kids together. While they consider themselves parents to all the children, Shalakhova and Lyons have one son named Orion, while Shedd and Lyons have a son named Dante, and Shedd has one son, Oliver, from a previous relationship. Shedd and Lyons also have a baby girl on the way.

The throuple says their polyamorous relationship makes their roles as parents unique, but no different from the rest of ours.-placeholder

Shedd explained that their sleeping arrangements are similar to those of most parents who are in monogamous relationships. "Right now, things are kind of crazy because we're sleep-training our infant son, and then I'm hugely pregnant so sleep is uncomfortable anyway, but generally we all share a king-size bed," she said. "Our kids are not allowed in the bed."

They totally deserve props for being able to comfortably fit three adults in one bed when most of us can hardly handle two and a toddler.

According to Shedd, three parents just means three times the attention for their little ones.-placeholder

All of the Lyons kids are homeschooled, and Shedd believes their experience with having three parents will make them more well-rounded, because they get to experience so many different types of parenting. "All of our kids have strict parents and loving parents and cuddly parents and wrestling parents at different times," she says.

Lyons says their kids have plenty of rules and boundaries they have to follow. He also says that in their household, it's incredibly important that all the parents present a united front when it comes to making and enforcing those rules. "We always have each other's back," he told Kelly.

The "throuple" seems to have love and parenting down pat, but there are plenty of people who have an issue with it.

Lyons, Shalakvova, and Shedd say that dealing with criticism definitely isn't a new thing for them -- they've made it a point not to exhaust themselves with "big reveals" about their family or sexuality to countless family members and strangers. "We think of ourselves just as family," Lyons said. "Our friends that know, know, but that's about it."
