Your child was born with a unique personality. Every child has a different one – maybe they’re shy and resistant, careful and particular, or friendly and high-energy, always bouncing off the walls and ready for fun! Sound familiar? Surprisingly, your child’s personality has a powerful impact on their behavior, attitude and developmental skills – including potty training!

Potty training isn’t just a skill; it is an incredibly important milestone for toddlers. It’s also a huge opportunity for parents to work together with their children. Potty training helps set the foundation for how you and your child tackle big challenges together as a team. There’s no one-size-fits-all potty training solution, so if you’re looking to conquer potty training in the New Year, it’s important to also sync your efforts with your child’s personality.

Start by determining if it might be time for you and your toddler to start the potty training journey together. Here are some of the most common signs:

  • Pulling at a wet or dirty diaper
  • Hiding to pee or poop
  • Interest in others’ use of the potty or copying their behavior

Once you’re ready to begin this adventure, you can determine your child’s potty personality by taking the Pull-Ups Potty Personality Quiz. The quiz results will deliver potty training tips, tools and advice tailored to your little one’s unique characteristics and personality. These potty personalities are based on years of studying infant and toddler temperament and development (not to mention my own four kiddos!).

So, while it may feel complicated or daunting at the beginning, it doesn’t always have to be like that – do what works best for you and your family. Together with Pull-Ups, your toddler will be on his or her way to potty success. Trust me, you’re in good hands – Pull-Ups has helped potty train 50 million Big Kids and counting!

And as you begin this exciting journey with your Big Kid, it’s important to keep in mind that some kids will take to the process very easily and never look back. Others feel the urge to step on the brakes and need a little extra love and attention to get them through this milestone. Just remember that every child is different, but it’s important to embrace your kid and provide them with the support they need.
