10 Best Family Moments Captured on My Phone

In my family, there were four children and I was the fourth. Given that I was born in the era before camera phones, this means I have approximately 11 photos of my childhood.

(But if you would like to see the world's most awkward 5th grade class picture, I've got you covered.)

Now I'm a mom with a smartphone and, well, I've got about 1,000 photos I'd be glad to show you at any time.

Even though I have a nice camera, I have to confess that most of my favorite pictures of my kids are the ones I take with my phone. My phone is always with me, making it easy to capture some of the moments of everyday magic that I hope to remember forever, as well as photos that will eventually totally embarrass my kids.

What are the favorite moments you've captured with your phone's camera?

  • Creative Cleaning

    1

My son wanted to earn some extra money and I wanted a clean bathroom. The goggles were 100% his idea. Saving this photo for his future wife? 100% my idea.

  • Sibling Harmony

    2

My kids love each other, but they don't always like each other. This photo helps remind me that it isn't all bickering, all the time at our house.

  • Everyday Triumph

    3

My son had tried, and failed, to make it across the swinging rings at our local park several times. He would usually get the first few rings and then fall into the dirt, trying not to get too frustrated at himself.

He kept trying and then one day, while wearing his lucky orange shorts, he finally made it! I am so happy to have the pictures to prove it.

  • Pure Joy

    4

You want to see happy? Put my daughter in water and you have instant happy.

This photo is what joy looks like in 2 year old form.

  • First Photobomb

    5

My daughter had just figured out how to reverse the camera and take selfies when my son decided he needed in on the action.

First selfie and first photobomb? Modern parenting milestone achieved!

  • First Time Dressing Herself

    6

    Hat? Check!

    Ridiculous sunglasses? Check!

    Boots? Check?

Heavy winter coat in August? Check!

I'd say she really hit it out of the ballpark for her first time dressing herself.

  • Mommy and Me Selfie

    7

I defy you to find a better set of hats in a mother/toddler selfie than these hats. We look spectacular.

  • The Magic of Dual Nap

    8

In my house, the threshold for if we've had a fun day is if we get that most magical of sounds from the backseat: total silence.

Truthfully, I can't even remember what we did the day this photo was taken but I can tell you that I will save this picture forever.

  • Escape Artist

    9

This photo documents the moment that I realized my toddler was an excellent climber and also a backyard escape artist.

She is a stinker, this one.

  • First Job

    10

My son decided that he wanted to earn some of his own money, so he picked up all the sticks in a neighbor's yard in exchange for $1.50.

He was so proud of himself afterward and asked for a photo so "I can show my kids sometime."

    You got it, kid.
