10 Best Blogs From Parents of Autistic Children

This month is National Autism Awareness Month, and around the world there is an amazing array of parents who raise awareness through their blogs. Every day they share their stories of raising children on the spectrum from their struggles to their achievements, and the emotions along the way. 

The provide comfort for other parents in similar situations and insight to rest of the world. Over the years, I've come across some amazing ones, and following are ten of my favorites. This list is in no way comprehensive or a ranking of any sort, as I know there are plenty of others out there. These are just some of the best. Feel free to leave ones you love in the comments as well, because this is definitely a case where more is better.

1. Adventures in Extreme Parenthood

Sunday Stilwell has been blogging since 2008. She says: Adventures in Extreme Parenthood is where I tell my tales of raising 2 boys on the severe end of the autism spectrum while attempting to laugh and blog about it."

2. Kim Stagliano

Kim is the author of "All I can Handle I'm No Mother Teresa," and she blogs about life with her three daughters, all of whom are on the spectrum.

3. Flappiness Is

Leigh Merryday blogs about her 3-year-old son Callum who has autism. She says, "Suffice it to say, between being a teacher and having family experience with the spectrum, the Jaws theme played loud and clear in my head at the first little glimpses of flapping and stimming in my son."

4. Squidalicious

Shannon Des Roches Rosa's blog tagline says it all" The Adventures of Leo and his Potty-Mouthed Mom; Parenting, Autism, iPads & Geekery."

5. Into the Woods, Living Deliberately

Jennifer Byde Myers writes about her two children, Jake and Lucy. She says, "Jake is a boy with acronyms and 'ics', Autistic, ADHD, CP (ataxic), and a little panic disorder too. Lucy is a little scamp who charms everyone and started talking when she was 5 months old."

6. Stimeyland

Stimey is a mom to three, including Jack, who has autism. According to her bio, "She officially joined Jack on the spectrum when she was diagnosed with Asperger’s in early 2012.

7. Austintistic

It's not all moms. This one is written by Scott M. LeRette. He describes himself as  "an ordinary man with an extraordinary son."

8. Yeah. Good Times.

Mom Jill Smo writes in her profile: "Snarky, profane Mama to 2 boys: Child 1 is autistic and Child 2 OMGISN'T. I write about... stuff. Sometimes. Other times I write about other stuff. A lot of the time I don't write anything at all."

9. Lost and Tired

Another dad, Rob Groski, has been blogging about his three boys on the autism spectrum since 2010. He writes, "We aren't a TV show and there are no actors. This is our struggle, our journey...and it's all true."

10. We Go With Him

Kristina Chew is a classics professor, translator, blogger, and mother of 15-year-old Charlie who's on the "moderate to severe end of the autism spectrum".
