Toddler Proof iPhone Case for Total Pushover Parents

iPhone case for babyI resisted letting my 4-year-old play with my husband's iPhone. In fact, I put the kibosh on it -- until we were stranded in an airport for 13 hours over the holidays. The batteries were dead on both laptops and the DVD player. We ran out of snacks. Her patience was slowly dying as well.

My husband gave her his iPhone. In his infinite wisdom, he had loaded some preschool learning apps (think puzzles, memory games, letter-matching) onto it. We were spared a meltdown of epic proportions -- all because of his iPhone.

At the recent New York International Toy Fair, Fisher Price debuted their Laugh & Learn Baby iCan Play Case. Yup, a case for the iPod Touch or iPhone for your toddler, one that protects it from “dribbles and drools.”

This mama is giving it a standing ovation.

It has special handles that Junior can gnaw on if he's teething -- but for anyone with a young toddler just learning how to use one of these devices, it is a grand idea. Your tot can play with it for as long as the battery holds out -- without being able to hit the main button at the bottom (my husband tells me that's the home button). And if your kid drops it? No worries, it's protected. It is supposed to be about $15, which to me is a bargain.

Truth be told, my daughter now has her own iPhone (a hand-me-down from my husband). I don't have a problem with that. She doesn't play with it all of the time, not every day, not even every week. She knows the names of almost 25 different dinosaurs, can complete complex sequences and patterns, and now loves mazes.

Whether you let your young kids play with your iPhone or not, there is no denying this is the next wave of technology, one that your kids will be introduced to faster than you think.

I keep wondering, if they can come up with this, though, why can't they come up with an iPhone case to hold my glass of wine while I text?

Would you get one of these cases that toddler-proof your iPhone or iPod?
