Women Strip to Raise Money for Autism

nude calendar autism fundraiserA knitting group in Tacoma, Washington, decided to take it all off for a cause. Marsha Cunningham was looking for a way to raise money for therapies and treatments for her twin grandchildren who have autism.

Inspired by a group of knitters in England who had put together a calendar of themselves posing nude to benefit breast cancer, the 63-year-old grandmother approached her knitting group with the idea that they do the same for autism.

The group was glad to help.

The nine women -- now known as the Knotty Knitters -- posed without a stitch of clothing (save for a beautiful knitted hat or scarf, tastefully placed here or there) and created the 2011 Knitting Naked for Autism calendar. The women range in age from their 40s to their 80s.

While the money raised from the sale of the calendars will benefit Cunningham's grandchildren directly, she's making the calendar available to other groups who want to use it as a fundraiser.
