The Jolie-Pitt Twins Turn Two Today! A Look Back in Photos

angelina jolie twinsTwins Knox Jolie-Pitt and and Vivienne Jolie-Pitt, who are the youngest of Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt's Brady-Bunch-sized brood, turn 2 today.

The world first met Knox Leon and Vivienne Marcheline, who were born in France on July 12, 2008, in People magazine when they were just 3 weeks old. "It is chaos, but we are managing it and having a wonderful time," Jolie said at the time.

Brad and Angelina were paid $14 million by People and Hello! for rights to the first pictures of the newborn twins. The couple donated the entire sum to the Jolie/Pitt Foundation.

So how were they named? Knox was the middle name of Brad's grandfather (plus the name ends with an "x" just like older brothers Maddox and Pax). Leon was the name of Angelina's great grandfather, and the French name is a nod to the twins' place of birth. Vivienne, whose name is also French-based, was given the middle name Marcheline after Angelina's mother, who died the year before the twins were born.

Soon after their arrival, Angelina posed while breastfeeding one of the twins on the cover of W magazine. Brad took that photo, as well as all the photos for the article. Jolie told W that Vivienne is “sturdier” and “more demanding” than her brother Knox, who is “very chill” and “loves music,” taking after his father.

Shortly after their births, Angelina had the longitude and latitude coordinates of the twins tattooed on her left arm. Even though the twins were born in the same place, she got a tattoo for each of them, and they join the tattoos of the birthplaces of each of her other four children ... Maddox, Zahara, Pax, and Shiloh.

A year later, in 2009, the artist Daniel Edwards immortalized Angelina and her breastfeeding twins Knox and Vivienne in a bronze statue that he sculpted in honor of World Breastfeeding Week.

And most recently, Angelina told Vanity Fair the twins "are classic boy and girl. She's really female. And he's really a little dude."

Happy Birthday Knox and Vivienne!
