White House Ensures that Health Care Covers Kids

If you're a parent who breathed a sigh of relief when the health care reform bill passed, breathe another one.

Though health insurance companies were saying they didn't have to cover your kids' pre-existing conditions, the Obama administration isn't going to let them get away with it.

Anyone who has health insurance for their kids right now and doesn't have any reason to change that coverage has earned a little extra security. If children are insured for one thing, they must now be insured for all.

Until just yesterday, if you were looking at a change in jobs -- and hence insurers -- or counting on this bill's promise to make health insurance more affordable for your family, the insurance companies were claiming you were out of luck.

The White House to the rescue: Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius issued a letter Monday with stern language directed toward the insurance companies' attempts to get out of covering kids. Her letter states she'll issue regulations in coming weeks that make it clear insurance companies must provide our kids with full coverage.

And the insurance companies have cried uncle -- they're going to cover kids come September.

Were you happy with the passage of the bill? Does this change your opinion?
