Just in case you needed more incentive to quit using tanning beds (besides skin cancer -- HELLO!), you're about to pay more.

Like many other women, I feel like I look better tan -- healthier, skinnier, prettier. And like many women my age who celebrated their 20s in the early-mid '90s, I spent a good amount of time (and money) at the tanning salon. As a breast cancer survivor, I cringe just thinking about it, but I did.

Back then, I was likely addicted to tanning beds, much like the Jersey Shore reality stars, as I used to hit the tanning bed a few times a week slathered in some sort of tan "accelerator." These days, I slather on the sunscreen daily and, while I do swim outside and thus get color, I feel better knowing I'm not blatantly courting skin cancer.

Your toddler is always slathered with SPF, wearing a protective hat, and taking shade breaks. Good for you -- and him.

But on the off chance he gets a sunburn this summer, follow these basic dos and don'ts to ensure a quick and comfy recovery.

Finding a perfect swimsuit cover-up can be a challenge. While you may love soaking up some rays, it's not exactly comfortable running to the snack bar, chasing a toddler, or walking from the car to the beach without feeling fully dressed.

At the same time, wearing thick materials or too much of a cover can weigh you down and make you sweat. Not cool when you're hitting the beach.

Here are three easy, breezy, and fashionable swimsuit cover-ups that hit that summer sweet spot.

Photo from AmazonOur recent trip to Disney sounded something like this:

"Mommy, can I take my pony with me to the park?"

"Are you going to carry it?"

    "Yes."

    "All day?"

"No, you can carry her too."

Too, huh? More like every second AFTER we left the hotel room. Fortunately I was a few steps ahead of her -- ah, the power of the product.

    Hogwarts Castle

The new Harry Potter theme park, the Wizarding World of Harry Potter, opened this morning to mobs of Harry Potter fans. While all the attractions look dazzling and fun for all ages, I'm wondering who can afford to take their family there. Prices are steep!

It's summer (safety) time -- are you inflicting hearing damage to yourself?

Maybe you like to blast your iPod at the gym or while you're out for a run (which is not only dangerous for your ears, but also for your life, as you should always be able to hear what's going on around you when you're out exercising, especially in traffic).

Or maybe you're taking in a summer concert or music festival. Don't forget those fireworks for the 4th of July. Heck, even a lawnmower can produce enough noise to hurt your ears.

  • Going on Vacation: Special Needs Living

Today's guest blogger is Katie Olson (aurorabunny), mom to 3-year-old Brody, who has autism.

Every week, Katie shares the ongoing struggles and triumphs that often come with parenting a child with special needs. Today, she talks about how hard it is to think about taking her child on vacation.

Autism doesn't take a vacation. Literally. The dog days of summer have already arrived, at least where we live. The temps are stifling, most kids are out of school, and for many families, this time of year means at least one or two ritualistic trips out of town.

My family, on the other hand, hasn't been on a vacation since before my son Brody was born 4 years ago -- and the mere mention of the V word is enough to send me into anxiety overload.

Judah, age 15 months, NOT sleepingSome people are born campers. I am not one of those people.

Last weekend we went on a multi-family camping trip and while it was completely awesome, my baby did his part to make everything more complicated, dirtier and completely exhausting. It was still a fantastic time, but if I had to do it all over again I would change a few things, or at the least, not pack like I was going to the Holiday Inn instead of the wilderness.

I had the baby safe bug spray and sun protection, but unfortunately forgot a lot of other key elements for baby camping success.

Here’s what I learned from making rookie camping mistakes with my one-year-old:

I love me some vacation, but I don't love getting there. Whether we're flying or driving, the journey is the hardest part for my family. My 3 1/2-year-old gets bored easily. My 11-month-old doesn't sleep through the drives like he used to. They are sitting close enough to touch (pinch, prod, poke) each other. Four or five hours in the car with them can feel like FOREVER.

Here are a few dos and don'ts (things I've learned the hard way) to make your next road trip go a bit more smoothly:

  • Sasha & Malia Obama: Summer Vacation Plans?

Photo by Jeff Haynes/GettyMalia Obama, 11, and sister Sasha Obama, who turned 9 yesterday, are finishing up the school year like most American school kids.

President and Mrs. Obama, while busy as can be, did take time out yesterday to attend end-of-the-school-year functions for both the First Daughters at the girls' separate schools -- Malia's being a Sidwell school in northwest Washington and Sasha's being Sidwell Friends School in Bethesda, Maryland.

Gosh, it's weird enough when your parents are milling around at school events. I remember always feeling a little off-balance when my parents were there, in attendance, in my own little private world of school and school friends. Imagine if they showed up with Secret Service and tons of reporters? Double weird...

Anyway, now the question is how will the First Family be spending their summer vacation?
