It's time for a Mom Confession -- because, let's face it, we're real mothers and sometimes it doesn't work the way the parenting books say it should.
This Week's Confession:
I don't put my toddler to bed until around midnight so that she sleeps later in the morning. I get more housework done that way. — anonymous
We all have secrets -- so thanks to this brave mom for sharing her honest thoughts, and thank you for keeping this conversation non-judgmental!

I think some times you have to. I work a lot of nights and my husband only works nights, but my son likes to wake up first thing in the morning. So if I know that I need to sleep in the next morning so I can stay up late for work without being exhausted I keep my son up later too so that he will sleep in. If I don't he wakes me up at 5:30 am and he doesn't take naps so I don't have a reprieve.
I've made the kids stay up late so that they would sleep most of the way thru a drive, when traveling.
I have done it, but with my middle son, it NEVER worked : (
I doubt it would work it my son. He seems to be an early riser.. up at 6-630am.
I wouldn't do it...but whatever works. I know some people do it to work around job schedules, being able to see a parent that they might not ever otherwise see if they went to bed early, etc. Just be forewarned if you do it every night that come time for school it's probably going to bite you in the butt. :)
yeah but i wouldn't say i did it on purpose. Sometime i go past his "bedtime" because we get doing things or watching a movie and the time slips away. he gets up really early when he's with his dad for pre-school, when his with me he gets to sleep in, so i win either way..lol
Well my 7 yr old and my 5 yr old both go to bed at 8 o'clock on school nights. On the weekends I'm more lenient and I let them stay up until 9 same w/ summer vacation.. just because they are on summer vacation that doesn't mean there bed time has to be too lol.. Now my 21 month old stays up w/ me until about 10 because if I put her to bed any sooner she gets up in the middle of the night and wants to play. But once she starts school she will also have a bedtime routine set up as well.
I have tried this but for my son it desont matter what time he goes to bed. he gets up at 7 even if he goes to bed at 10 enstead of 7. I'de rather have my quiet time in after he goes to bed then have him sleep in while i am up doing chores....lol.
When my daughter was a baby she would sleep for 12 hours. If I put her to bed at 8pm she'd get up at 8am, if I put her to bed at 10pm she got up at 10 am. I would keep her up later on weekends. I still do, but she goes to bed by 10 at the latest on weekends and 8 on weekdays. When we're visiting family she tends to stay up until midnight though, we just get so caught up visiting that time slips away. She never has to be up the next day though and it's only a few weeks a year that we're there.
i do that w no success.... they still wake up w the sun
