A Baby Einstein video refund! — just read Cafe Cynthia's post about this, as well as bits in Slate and the Chicago Tribune.
Yep, the Baby Einstein video makers want to give you your money back for any Baby Einstein videos purchased in the past five years — apparently because its baby TV product didn't make your toddler into an Einstein after all.
Hilarious really...
Read Cafe Cynthia's post for more about the Campaign for a Commercial-Free Childhood (CCFC) complaint that tipped the Baby Einstein company to offer this refund and for the link for getting your refund.
While you're there, make sure to read the Baby Einstein Company's perspective on the whole situation too.
And before you go, do tell us...did your toddler watch Baby Einstein videos? What do you think? Did the Einstein effect rub off or what?

I dont think that any product can make your kid a genius. Is dumb. Yes it can teach them a lot of things but to make them a genius I doubt it.
*rolls eyes* It keeps my kid entertained, that's all i care about. It gives me 30 minutes or so that they are mesmerized and I can clean, make a meal, etc etc etc. Sure, it can teach them words and sign language and all sorts of neat little stuff, but I never expected it to make my kids geniuses.
I rented a baby Einstein from the library. I didn't want to buy it because, no, I didn't believe it was going to make my child a genius. I just wanted to see what it was like. It kept my son entertained, sure, until we had to take it back! But that is all we got it for, the entertainment value.
It kept my twins entertained for the 15 minutes I would need to get something done. However the sign language one did help reinforce the signs we were already teaching them, and they did pick up a couple we hadn't taught them yet. My youngest never was interested in them.
it taught my dd sign language. I'm good with that! I think this is so ridiculous! People are just out to get money from whoever they can these days and it is so sad!
this is dumb.
helping your child learn yes, better than an hour of cartoons yes but anyone with the assumption that these will make your children into a genuis yeah right! Any parent with that idea really are clueless. Another attempt to put parenting on someone else's shoulders and an excuse for parents to blame someone else.
We rented them from the library and purchased one with a gift card when my daughter was an infant. I'll let you know in a few years if she's a genius... ;-) They were perfect for what I wanted, 20ish minutes to do the dishes or some other type of household work. Thanks Baby Einstein!
I agree with the rest of you, the issue is dumb and it's sad that our world has come to this. I think it's really a small percentage of people who are sue-happy but they get the most publicity!
My son never wanted to watch them, he was more interested in Barney. I think they are still educational, just not very interesting. Not like I feel like I need my money back.
It taught my daughter sign language too... I returned 4 of ours for the full refund to buy her some new winter clothes. :)
