Many moms are already trading ideas and tips on making your children's costumes in some of CafeMom's great Halloween groups, like Moms Who LOVE HALLOWEEN, I Love Halloween, and The Halloween Tree.
I commend moms on some of the ambitious projects they are taking on. I wish I owned a sewing machine!
My kids haven't decided yet, so I think it's time for a little nudge in this department. I don't want to have to brave another tantrum when I tell my daughter that all the Hannah Montana costumes in her size are sold out. BTW I hear wizards and vampires (of the Cullen variety) are going to be very popular for the bigger kids.
- Flying monkey
- An artic mermaid and a seal
- Woodie and Jessie from Toy Story 2
- A Madame Alexander Doll
- Cupcake
- Sock monkey
What will your tot be for Halloween?

My kids are both using costumes that are already in the house. My son will either be Batman (an Easter gift) or Optimus Prime (his costume from last year). My daughter will be a Care Bear (a hand me down from a friend) or Tinkerbell (a gift)
But when I go home for Christmas my siblings and I are cleaning out my mom's house so my stepdad can sell it this spring so I am taking the sewing machine, so things may get more creative around here next year!
Well, I'm not making my toddler's costume this year but she's wearing one I made for her older siblings. Other then the costume they each wore their first Halloween (one we bought for our oldest in 2001) and a Darth Vader costume someone gave us that my son wore the last 2 Halloweens I have made all their costumes or put them together with clothes they already owned.
Last year my oldest was a hippie (wearing her own clothes), my son was Darth, my middle daughter was a witch (wearing a costume I made her older sister years ago) and my youngest was a mummy (just wrapped up in strips of muslin).
I've made several clown costumes, the witch costume, a devil girl, a Batman cape (that my son also used for his DV cape), a cowboy duster and also put together a Bob the Builder costume, the hippie costume, the mummy costume and a cowgirl costume.
Not sure what we are doing this year. My older girls want to be rock stars which they can mostly do with the clothes they have but I might check the sales racks or Salvation Army to find some accesories. My son wants to be a SWAT guy which we could probably do with just buying some blue sweats and doctoring them up and my youngest is going to be a clown.
We buy. I totally suck at sewing.
My son is being the Travelocity Gnome this year, hehehe.
...we buy them..lexie..is was a witch this last year...
bella is going to be turtle....
I made a really cute costume last year. But, this year we're using a hand me down b/c I don't have the time to make what I want. I'm also pregnant and don't have the energy.
I made my DD costume it was for her professional day at school but she will wear it on Halloween is a Chef costume. As for my son I got him a skeleton PJ at Walmart and that's he costume a baby skeleton. Is comfy and cute.
Last year my son wanted to be Thomas the train, I hate spending 30$ on a costume so I took a piece of poster board and drew the front of Thomas and on another piece the back and hung it on his shoulders, we dressed him in striped overalls and gave him a conductor hat. My daughter wanted to be strawberry shortcake, I found a large (big enough to go over her coat) red and white strip sweater at the second hand shop sprayed her hair red and took a old floppy hat and stamped strawberries all over it and pined the front up with a large strawberry cutout made into a pin.
forgot to add that I dont sew, I use the no sew glue!!
I'm making all of the costumes for my family this year.
My daughter is going to be a crab
one of the twin boys will be a frog
the other twin boy will be an octopus
and the dog is going to be an Eel
my husband and I are going to be fisherman....
I just bought my son's halloween costume and he is going to be a pirate. I'm not really crafty or know how to sew so I can't make his costume.
