They grow so fast. I have two sets of pencil markings in my walk-in closet to prove it.
But now that we're this far in, I wish I'd have gotten a more formal growth chart to track all the growing.
How do you chart your child's growth?
Growth charts shown above:
- Mighty Oak Growth Chart, $59 at Bold & Noble
- Tall Tales Heirloom Growth Chart, $49.99 at Target
- Picture Me Growth Chart, $12.50 at Spoon Sisters
There are lots of way to do DIY growth charts. Someone I know has a surfboard theme in his kid's room. He hung a surfboard vertically and charted his son's growth with a wax pencil. Very cool.

I went the old fashined way with a pencil and door jamb. I only started doing it last summer on a whim so I have 3 sets of marks for each of my 4 kids which makes for a very crammed wall.
It's cool to see how much they have grown, though. My son and middle daughter both grew an inch and a half since last June. My youngest daughter grew 2". My oldest daughter is a shorty and grew about an inch. It's starting to get really crowded since the older girls are almost the same height and almost as tall as my son was last summer. Not sure what I'm going to do when they start overlapping.
I HAVEN'T STARTED MEASURING TIPHANI'S GROWTH. I'M UPSET WITH MYSELF BECAUSE SHE'S TWO GOING ON THREE AND I HAVENT DONE ANYTHING TO TRACK HOW BIG SHE'S GOTTING. I NEED TO START BECASUE I WOULD BE EASIER THAN TAKING HER TO THE DOCTOR EVERY OTHER MONTH.I THINK I WILL START WHEN WE MOVE INTO OUR NEW PLACE
my mom ordered a laminated one for my son when he was first born that went with his theme pooh...so now we use that and its nice cause i can put it away when he is older and show he later in life how he grew. we try to do it often but for sure every six mths and on dr visits.
I have one that we hang on their doors since it is very possible we will move again and i want to be able to take it with us. I mark it every year on their birthday.
we have this stick and measure the kids on their birthday and mark it up.
i am working on making bean one now. it will be a cross stitch giraffe and i have all his heights written down so when it gets done i can mark them and continue marking htem as he grows.
