Mom Confessions: I Hate My Neighbor's Kid

32

mom confessionsIt's time for a Mom Confession -- because, let's face it, we're real mothers and sometimes it doesn't work the way the parenting books say it should.

This Week's Confession:

-- I can't stand my neighbors' kids, and I'd really love to tell them to stay off our property. Unfortunately, my own toddlers love them, even though they are mean, spoiled and manipulative. Their parents never discipline them when they push, steal toys or cause trouble -- we send ours to their rooms all the time! It's just not fair. -- anonymous

-- I hate dealing with neighbor kids. I want my children to have friends, but I don't want to deal with the kids, sleep-overs, and feeding the entire neighborhood (if they had their way). I just hate having to repeatedly say no to someone else's kid! -- anonymous

I don't have any neighbors but if I did and their kids weren't following at least the most basic rules I would send them home. simple things like be polite, no hitting, pushing ect, and things I wouldn't want my kids to do that are dangerous.

And maybe it would take that kind of thing for the parents of those children to "get on the ball" and usher in some discipline. Maybe to them, there's nothing wrong but if people start sending their kids home for misbehaving, maybe they'd realize there's an issue. I think it's possible that some parents who don't discipline enough don't realize they don't. If they assume everything is fine or that's how things are supposed to be, why would they tweak their parenting style?

My neighbors kids are BRATS! But I let them come over because their parents treat them badly and let them wander around the neighborhood by themselves (I'm talking 3 and 5 year olds!)...If they are with me at least I know they are safe! Once my son gets a little older though (he's 15 months) they won't be allowed around because they would be a bad influence.

We live in a great neighborhood and our closest neighbors kids are welcome here, but know they have to follow my rules, just like my son would have to follow the rules at their house. If some random rude kids show up (this happened before but they have moved) I have no issue with telling them to leave. I use the excuse of, "your parents don't know you are here, and they don't know me, so you have to go home. If you want to come back, bring your parents to meet me so we can talk about rules". Works every time. We are blessed though, our neighbors are cool and they make sure their kids are respectful, and if they are not, they face consequences.

I hate my neighbors kids too.  They skateboard on my air conditioner and I have to come out and yell at them, and they skate down the middle of the road with their ipods on so if you are lucky enough to get stuck behind them in the car you have to honk for about 10 minutes to avoid running them over.  Blah.

i think i rather have them say something if my childs are doing wrong, i want my kids to be corrected if im not there to see it. besides it they are let go when they are wrong they just get into more trouble, i want law abiding responsible adult  children, not jail birds.

When our neighborhood kids are acting up on our property then we tell them to leave. Or if they are putting themselves in danger on out property, they have to leave. We have a tree in our front yard that is very close to dead, and branches fall off every time the wind gets too strong... well the kids in out neighborhood try to climb it all the time... if I catch them doing that then they have to go find some other place to play.

Unfortunalty I currently live in an apt. complex so it's like one big communal yard, however I have repremanded children (and teens) for their language. But I admit that my DS has been inside a lot more then he should because I just don't want to have to deal with the stress of dealing with unruly, unsupervised children. Can't wait to move into our new place.

I would love to discapline my neighbors kids and I do at times. There parents just sit there and go oh well what do you want me to do about it.  If I can't then I call the manager and get him to deal with it.  I also let them play as long as I am with them if these friends are out. If they are not out then my kids have free range out there.  Take care Leesa
