Mom Confessions: I Don't Want to Play

mom confessionsIt's time for a Mom Confession -- because, let's face it, we're real mothers and sometimes it doesn't work the way the parenting books say it should.

This Week's Confession:

I hate to play. I have no problem sitting and talking to my son while he is playing. But I can't stand getting down on the floor and rolling trucks and trains around making noises. I'm sure it will be the same when my daughter is old enough to play dolls and have tea parties. I love spending time with my kids, but playing is not fun for me. -- anonymous

The only reason that I don't like to play sometimes is that I have so much to do and feel stresed out. But when I pretend and act silly with my daughter to make her laugh I noticed that it calms me down. And helpsme to realize that everything else can wait for a little bit. It makes me feel good that she wants my attention because as she gets older she is going to be too busy for me and that makes me a lot more patient.

I play with my stepdaughter but sometimes I just don't feel like doing it so I don't. Also I think it's important for children to be able to entertain themselves sometimes. I don't think children should expect you to constantly entertain them.

OMG  i thought this was just me!!!  thanks ladies for your honesty.  i have 2 boys and i really don't like playing cars or other pretend games.  we have found through trial and error, i am not the board game mommy either.  i get antsy cause its taking so long and get bossy.  my husband has banned me from candy land! i don't mind coloring and reading, the quieter stuff.

I do not like to play. I've colored and sang and done all that but I just don't play. I suck at it. Lol. I do often wonder however where in the hell did that child inside go? I have great ideas for stuff they can do or play but I don't participate. My daughter always likes to quote movies and replay them. That's cool till we do the same scene for an hour and she tells me what to say an how to say it. No. I'm done. Sorry

Also I just want to say that I had so much guilt all the time and it's nice to hear that I'm not the only one who isn't perfect. Man this mom shit is tough sometimes. I feel so guilty for having a second child and having less one on one time with my first. She loves him but I feel like I'll forever feel guilty. Like I pushed her away and took him in.
