New Jersey is the first state that now requires parents to vaccinate their children with a flu shot before allowing them to attend day care or preschool.
The state’s Public Health Council approved the measure last year, and it takes effect this fall. Children from 6 months to 5 years old who attend a child-care center or preschool have until Dec. 31 to receive the flu vaccine, along with a pneumonia vaccine.
Of course, many parents are up in arms over the measure, saying it violates their rights not to vaccinate their children. What would you do if your state required you to vaccinate your preschooler?
