Mom Confessions: I Paid $22 for My Son's Haircut

mom confessionsIt's time for a Mom Confession -- because, let's face it, we're real mothers and sometimes it doesn't work the way the parenting books say it should.

This Week's Confession:

"I paid $22 for my son's haircut. No, I don't like spending that kind of money on hair that only needs trimming a month later. But I do want it to look nice, and it's hard to find any place cheaper. I live in an expensive area -- even the barber charges that much! And I have no idea how to cut hair ... I know if I tried it would turn out just awful.

But the worst of it was, I spent $22 (plus tip) and the hair salon was so busy that my son didn't even get to sit in the fire truck! -- anonymous

I couldn't vote cause none of those apply to me #1 cause I don't havea boy and #2 cause I cute my dd's hair myself and I do a great job. my hub/her daddy took her once to get her haircut and the lady truly f-ed it was uneven and she cut it way too short. so I told him he shoudln't have taken her without asking me first and I have always trimmed her hair and will continue to do it myself cause I do a better job since I kow what looks good on my dd. but,  I used to cut my bros hair, I cut my hubb's hair (what little he has) and have cut other guys hair and never messed up, so if I had a boy, I would do it myself.

The most I've spent on a haircut for my son is $19 on his first haircut at one of those children's salons where they have the cartoons at each station and chairs shaped like cars and rocketships.... now we have it cut at Great Clips every other month and that is still $13... I can keep his bangs trimmed, but I can't do the back.

I would never pay money for any hair cut.  I just can't do it.  I think it is an absurd thing to waste money on.  Any hair cuts in my household are done by me.  The kids want someone else to do it, then they figure out how to pay for it.   Or hit up the sperm donor.

I voted cut it myself.  What I did was take him to get his haircut and paid the first time and then I asked them what sizes they used on the clippers.  I just went out and bought the clippers and have been doing it myself ever since.

I have paid that much for my oldest son's haircuts(he's 6).  He has a few colics and wavy hair.  When I take him to the cheaper hair places the cuts don't look very good.  He goes a long time between haircuts, he's blessed with hair that grows out pretty cute.  My younger son has straight hair with only one colic.  I can take him to the cheaper places(around 10 a cut) and it always turns out great.  DH goes to the cheep places too.  I personally have grown my hair out getting fewer haircuts to help my brain wrap around paying 25 for a kids hair cut.  I can't cut hair myself, seriously I can't cut a straight line.  I tried doing DH's once, not good.  When people ask me if a picture is straight I truly don't know, I'm that bad.

DS just got his his first scissor haircut the other night (he had his head shaved before). I used to be a cosmetologist (in what seems to be another life lol) but nevr cut a child's hair.  It was a challange let me tell ya.. but all in all, considering he was moving around to see the scissors, it looks pretty good!

to everyone who "refuses to pay that much" keep in mind the barber/cosmotologist is only trying to make a living too. they end up havbing to pay the shop 30-50% of what they bring in each day, not to mention their own tool and supplies, licensing, continued ed. classes and a higher tax rate for being self employed. trust me, there is very little left over.

We paid $15 for my son's first haircut, he went with his daddy, and I thought that was too much.  It didn't take her very long to cut it, but I know that we were taking up an appointment time so I understand why she charged us so much.  He needs another haircut now so I'm going to take him with me this time and hope that my friend won't charge us very much.
