Mom Confessions: I Find Excuses to Send My Kids to Bed Early

23

mom confessionsIt's time for a Mom Confession -- because, let's face it, we're real mothers and sometimes it doesn't work the way the parenting books say it should.

This Week's Confession:

I once made an excuse why my kids were in trouble so they would have to go to bed early that night and I could get a break! -- anonymous

I've told my toddler it was bedtime when it was really an hour earlier so I could put him to sleep and watch my favorite TV show. -- anonymous

Why lie about it?  If you want the bed time to be an hour earlier, why not just tell him that it's time for bed, whatever time it is?  That time I checked, I was the parent and I didn't know I had to have an excuse or give a reason why I want my child in the bed early.

I don't lie about it ...I just say "go to bed" ..and then I'll get the whole "well it's not our bed time yet". This is only happens when they've misbehaved and I'm just DONE!

Before my girl could tell time I would pretend it was bedtime up to an hour before it really was, but only if she was tired enough for me to get away with it!!

There's no reason to lie to your children. Simply tell them that bedtime is when mommy and daddy say it is. It's not always determined by the clock, just like it's not always determined by whether or not the sun has set.

Do I tell my children white lies? Not intentionally. Do I want THEM telling ME white lies? No. So why would I set that example for them?

Well if they are like my kids they have an internal clock & they know. You can make them go to bed early but you can't make them sleep.  I think if it's just an hour I could deal, if longer.....get a sitter.

Girl do what you have to do for you, everyone can posture and say how dare she omg...But you know what I have had to tell my son please go to the room so I can have my me time...He is 11yrs old now when he was younger like your kids you have to give them something they can undestand why they have to go to the room and stay because a lot of kids are not falling for I just want some rest they do not understand because in their minds mommy's don't sleep,  what is that to a mommy so do you and I hope it all works out......

I have sent the kids to bed earlier than normal when they're working my last nerve, but I do tell them that's why it's happening.  I swear, those kids have meetings on exactly How To Bug Mom Today.

I feel that there is no hard and fast rules to raising children; I made every mistake in the book with my first one. With each child I learned for the one before. By the time Cora was born I found that setting a regular bed time of 8pm was the only way to go, that means that they are in bed; not getting ready for bed. Cora is now older and still goes to bed between 9:00 and 9:30. If you need to put them down earlier try this little tip.

Set regular a bed time, when you need them to go to bed earlier but them in bed and give them a book to look at in till their regular bed time, them go in and set the book aside and tell them good night just as you always do. This will take time to set a pattern  for them, your job is not to give in. You have just set two different habits for you child; a regular bed time, and a reading time.

To this day Cora goes to bed 30 minutes early to read.

This really works try it, your child is not going to what to do it at first, they will cry, and throw the book; you will have to stay calm and cool be persistent. this will take 7 to 14 day to create this habit. Remember if your child can hold a bottle they can hold a book.

I voted Yes. It is wrong to lie to your kids just because you don't want to be bothered with them. What is that teaching them ?
