Mom Confessions: My Toddlers Eat Pizza for Breakfast

mom confessionsIt's time for a Mom Confession -- because, let's face it, we're real mothers and sometimes it doesn't work the way the parenting books say it should.

This Week's Confession:

"My kids have had pizza for breakfast. At least they are eating something and have food in their stomachs. I would rather feed them a non-traditional breakfast than have them be hungry!" -- anonymous

"I give my toddlers chicken nuggets and french fries first thing in the morning if they want it." -- anonymous

"My kids eat fish sticks for breakfast." -- anonymous

Should moms let their toddlers eat dinner-type fast-food or convenience food for breakfast?

They say breakfast is the most important meal of the day, and that good habits start early. Will this practice ruin your toddler's chance of developing lifelong healthy eating habits? Do you let your toddler eat anything he wants for breakfast?

We all have secrets and opinions -- so thanks to these brave moms for sharing their honest thoughts, and thank you for keeping this conversation non-judgemental!

Who says what is and should be "breakfast" foods? Why can't those other things be for breakfast? I just had leftover orange chicken (Chinese food) for breakfast. My kids like to have turkey sandwiches and other lunch/dinner type foods. As long as it is nutritious, who cares?

I bring my son to school around noon and he wakes up around 9. That gives us three hours to have breakfast and lunch. A lot of times I make him lunch instead of breakfast food around 1030 when he actually gets hungry. Its hard to fit two meals in three hours.

It doesn't really matter, does it?  Who hasn't had pizza for breaktfast, or cereal for dinner?  What's more important is a nutritional diet - not the time of day things are eaten.

I personally wouldn't. But, I'm kind of weird about things like that. My daughter constantly asks me to give her mac&cheese for breakfast and I say no because for me, it's not a breakfast food but again, that's me, I don't usually eat dinner food for breakfast. There are countries that have soap for breakfast. Strange, not something I would do, but it works for them. On the other hand, I have NO problem having breakfast foods anytime of the day. Now, why I am this way, I have no idea but again, that's me. Some people do things differently. I don't think it would be good to feed kids these kinds of things EVERYDAY for breakfast (or everyday for ANY meal, really) but once in awhile? No big deal. I mean, come on, most adults have only a cup of coffee and a donut for breakfast! lol

If you really think about it...who decided that pizza shouldn't be a breakfast food? Meal categories are arbitrary.

I love cold pizza for breakfast! We were all just sick last week. I knew my son was feeling better/had his appetite back because he asked for chicken pot pie for breakfast. I make my own and happened to have some left over so I gave it to him.

I offer the twins breakfast foods but if they ask for something else and I have it, I give it to them. As long as they eat a healthy, balanced diet I don't mind what order they eat their meals in.
