Mom Confessions: I'm Dying My Toddler's Hair

124

mom confessionsIt's time for a Mom Confession -- because, let's face it, we're real mothers and sometimes it doesn't work the way the parenting books say it should.

This Week's Confession:

"My son is still a baby and doesn't have hair yet, but if his hair grows in red, I will be sad. I will seriously dye his hair if it is really red. No offense to anyone or any kid with red hair ... some are really cute .. and girls with red are very pretty. But I just love blond/brown hair." --anonymous

Does a mother have a right to dye or enhance their toddler-age child's hair for preference or cosmetic reasons alone? How much control should a mom have over a young child's physical appearance? What message, if any, does this send to your toddler?

We all have secrets and opinions -- so thanks to this brave mom for sharing her honest thoughts, and thank you for keeping this conversation non-judgemental!

Are you freakin KIDDING ME! You should be turned over to Child protective services!!! You know too bad your poor baby couldnt be as picky about his mom as you are about his looks! I feel bad for your child i really do...to bad he didnt go to someone that would love him unconditionally...sad and dangerous and WRONG on so many levels!!!

That's extremely sad and this mom knows she's wrong, which is why she remained anonymous.

that is a little ridiculous, imo... very dangerous!! If you want to dye your kid's hair for fun when they are a little older, use Kool-aid or jello... it doesn't hurt the hair, no toxic chemicals and you can do silly colors and it is very temporary. Otherwise- permanent or even temp. dye from a box or bottle will destroy their hair, the chemicals are very toxic and could hurt the child very badly.

No offense, but it seems to me that this mom didn't read much into parenting and teaching her child to love the way their body was made, no matter what color his or her hair will be. Don't dye the kids' hair when they have no choice to be subject to the toxins, that should be considered child abuse!!

Maybe you should go visit a pediatric cancer ward and find out what there is to be truly sad about in life. I'm sure you would find some kids whose moms wouldn't care if their children were born with purple hair as long as they were healthy...

that is sick! why would you want to change your child? like omg my kid is going to have freckles and I am going to hate it so i am going to cover it up! Nice way to teach your child to love him/herself...get over it

That would teach the kid that he should be ashamed of his hair color. The kid would always have a complex about his hair. How is that fair?

Wow. I have read some bad stuff... it's like mom's peircing their infants ears. You are telling your child that they need to be altered to be perfect and that is just sad. People shouldn't have children if they can't love them for who they are and not feel the need to alter their child's appearence so selfishly.

my daughter has blond blond hair, the type of blond women spend lots of money for. I really have never liked blond hair.. would I dye her hair because I don't like blond hair in general? Nope. Her dad has reddish hair, and mines a brownish red... haha, but her hair is beautiful on her and I would NEVER dye it, especially without consent. It's just wrong.

WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH YOU!!!!! if you dont' like red hair FINE! but how can you start a kids life off by making them unsure of themselves? sorry to say (well not really) but YOU SHOULD NOT BE A MOM YET CUZ YOU ARE SUPER SELFISH!!!!angrymaybe i'm so ticked off cuz my son HAS RED HAIR and is the most beautiful boy in the WORLD!!!!!  redheads have enought teasing w/o their moms being dumb too!!

corri... corrie0227

that is such an inconceivable reason to dye the hair on a baby's head.

eeek. maybe baby's (shhhh) REAL daddy is a redhead?

j/k. sorta.
