daniel tiger neighborhood new baby

Everyone needs a little Daniel Tiger in their life! After all, what’s better than an animated tiger and his friends playing, singing, and teaching life lessons to your preschoolers?

I discovered Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood quite by accident and now it’s become must-see TV in our house. If you have never seen it, I promise, your kids are going to love it. It airs on PBS KIDS, and if the opening song sounds a little familiar -- maybe it’s because you watched Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood yourself! This show is produced by The Fred Rogers Company and has the same kind of feel-good, learn-lots, social-emotional style.

Daniel Tiger is, well, he is what he is. He’s a 4-year-old tiger with a bunch of fun-loving friends. There’s O the Owl, Katerina Kittycat, Prince Wednesday, and Miss Elaina. Some are animals, some are people, and they all have their distinct character traits, just like the real people in your child’s life.

Here at my house, we’re all excited for the new one-hour Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood special, which premieres on Monday, August 18. Make sure you check your local listings for PBS KIDS so you don’t miss it! The special kicks off the series’ second season and a week full of new episodes.

From what I’ve heard, there’s going to be a new addition to the Tiger family! Yup, Daniel is going to be a big brother. This one-hour “Meet the Baby” special will celebrate the arrival of little Margaret. And then, on Tuesday, August 19 and Wednesday, August 20, there will be two more new episodes that focus on Daniel and his family as they adjust to life with the baby.

Even if you’re not about to add a sibling yourself, these episodes should be lots of fun for kids from all sizes of families. The shows will tackle all those new baby issues -- like feeling left out, figuring out how to share both time and attention, and learning to appreciate how much fun a little sister (or brother) can be. And of course, Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood always does such a great job of incorporating strategies that help preschoolers work through their feelings.

I can’t wait and I hope that you love Daniel, his family and friends, and the catchy tunes they sing as much as we do!

And in case you didn’t know -- there’s a whole bunch of fun to be had at pbskids.org/daniel. Make sure you check it out because there’s going to be some great new stuff up there, including two new online games!

Don’t miss the new Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood “Meet the New Baby” special when it debuts on PBS stations nationwide and on the PBS KIDS Video Player, the PBS KIDS Video App, Apple TV, and PBS KIDS’ Roku channel on Monday, August 18!
