Picture of Toddler Tied to Lamp Post During Parade Goes Viral (PHOTO)

OMG 50

lamp postHave you heard about the picture of a child tied to a lamp post by a leash that was taken at a St. Patrick's Day parade in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania over the weekend?

Yep. Someone snapped a shot of a little kid who appears to be no more than 2 or so watching the festivities of the day -- all while tethered to a pole.

And by leash, I mean one of those backpack things that some parents use to keep tabs on their kiddos in airports and other crowded places.

There is no word on who took the photo, or whether or not the parents were nearby (or possibly even took the pic as some sort of joke). Regardless, it's causing quite the stir.

Check it out.

Since who was behind the camera can't be confirmed, we should probably take this picture with a grain of salt. Maybe it's photoshopped. Again, maybe the kid's parents were playing some sort of prank or simply looking for a funny photo op. Or maybe someone else snapped the pic -- and the parents tied up the kid because they were too afraid of him wandering off into the crowd. (Could be, right?)

Whatever the case, the photo is making headlines -- though it's tough to make any sort of judgment call as to what is going on without knowing the facts.

If the pic is legit, however, and somebody really did tie up their kid as a means of "taking care" of him? I think we can all agree that's just plain sad. (And a bit disturbing too.)

Do you think this photo is for real?

I am light hearted would like to think that the parents took the picture other wise where the heck are they because it doesn't appear anyone is watching him unless mom or dad are behind the camera. Which I totally find funny when my son was a toddler I bought one of those leash things just make my dad flip out, it worked LOL.

Damn! Wish I'd have thought of that. I would have saved so much on babysitters.

When my twins were toddlers and  they were in that in between stage of using strollers or walking on their own, we used leashes.  I was so afraid that their hands were slip out of my grasp and run out in the street.  I kept close watch on them, but kids can be extremely unpredictable.  Once they learn how to unclasp it from the teddy bear, it was a wrap.

I used a hand leash on my daughter when she was little. It is not as bad as people make it out to be.

Looks like something you do to dogs.

Chrissy:  It did look that way.  But, my twins were so stubbornly independent--it was a hassle to get them to stay in the stroller or continue to hold my hand or they were trying to move in different directions at the same time.  Very tiresome...and it made for me not to take them anywhere.  So, I broke down and got the child restraints --I think we were all happy...everyone acted normal.  Then, it changed once they figured out that they were restrained and after checking out "unrestrained" kids--and that's when they learned how to unclasp it.  The little stinkers!

I was 100% against kid leashes until I had 2 toddlers. I have tied the youngest to my chair on 4th of July and things like that. Would you rather the kid run into the road?

Have a "runner" for a toddler and this leash looks pretty good...just sayin!
