This story is so darn sad, I honestly don't even know where to begin. A couple of weeks ago, Bryce and Trudy Nielsen lost their 3-year-old son, Dayton, after a battle with stage 4 neuroblastoma -- a horrible cancer in his abdomen.
The grieving parents buried their precious little boy on October 8, and they'd been given donations to help cover the cost of the funeral and a headstone for his grave. But while running errands after laying Dayton to rest, Trudy discovered that the money had been stolen from her purse -- making an already devastating situation even more unthinkable.
In addition to trying to come to terms with the fact that they will never have the joy of seeing their son grow up, these poor parents can't even place a headstone or memorial at his grave site because some heartless individual(s) stole from them.
Isn't this the most disgusting thing you've ever heard?
What the heck is wrong with people? I mean, I guess it's possible that this was a random robbery and whoever took the money didn't realize that they were stealing from a grieving mother. Still, that doesn't make the situation any less horrible!
These parents have already been to hell and back, and at the very least, they deserve to have a beautiful memorial where they can come and visit their son. Luckily, this couple has some amazing friends who have set up a fund in their son's honor, "Team Dayton." It will hopefully help them financially not only with replacing the money they lost, but also with the bills that are still rolling in each month.
There is only so much heartache two people can take, so let's hope they are able to find some peace going forward. And let's hope whoever did this to them learns a very important lesson in karma down the road.
What words of comfort would you offer to these people?
