For all of the ugliness and fighting we saw this week on The Real Housewives of New Jersey, there was one moment that was incredibly sweet and pure. Jacqueline Laurita had been out in California getting a tummy tuck and some other plastic surgery, while her husband kept their sons at home. She was worried that Nicholas, her 3-year-old who has autism, wouldn't even miss her while she was gone.
She had nothing to worry about though, because it was one of the most heartwarming homecomings you could imagine. He was clearly excited to see his mom, smiling and returning her expressions of love. It was a really special moment to witness.
On her Bravo blog, she wrote about how amazing Nick's reaction was for her:
I was thrilled to see how excited Nicholas was to see me when I came home. I can't put into words how great that felt to see that emotion in him. I missed my boys so much, and it made me feel good to know that they missed me too. We were definitely connecting. I cried when I saw CJ and my husband, and Nick’s smile lit up the room and melted my heart. It was great to be home.
He has come such a long way in such a short time, and it's been great to watch his progression on the show and see the other updates she provides about treatments they try, their triumphs, and hurdles. Their story, though not the same as that of all families with children affected by autism, is surely inspirational to many. While we hear about autism so often in the headlines, it's not often that we see families in the media dealing with it on a day-to-day basis, so kudos to Jacqueline for sharing their story.
While Nicholas had formerly regressed in his language, he's made great strides. In addition to what we've seen on RHONJ, the family recently shared this video that shows him working on his skills with Fritos and music. It's pretty remarkable.
All of that other drama seems awfully silly when you see something as sweet as that. Way to go, Nicholas.
Have you been following Nicholas's progress?
