I will warn you that this story is going to make you feel a bit like a slacker parent, but it's sweet enough that you'll get over it. It began when a single father working as a firefighter wanted to help nurture his little boy's dreams of becoming just like him some day.
So he set out to build him a fire truck bed so that he could live his dream both day and night. Now, I know you've probably seen some cute fire truck beds before, but this one is so far and above any of them you won't even believe it.
The father posted amazing pictures of the bed on Reddit. He wrote: "I am a Single Father/Firefighter, and my son loves going to the station with me so he can play on the trucks. I decided it was time that he had one of his own." And what an amazing one he got.
Made from old trucks, the bed has a pump panel, switch controls, and of course lights aplenty. There's even a siren, which seems brave. Inside is a 20-inch monitor that the father has rigged so he can control the movies and shows his son watches. Oh, and perhaps coolest of all -- there's a CB that is hooked up to the county emergency scanner so he can hear the fire dispatch when he wants.
Seriously, what an awesome dad. He's clearly talented in building and creative, but to put that much time and energy into a project for his son is beyond touching.
I still remember when I was young and had dreams of being an Olympic gymnast. My dad built me my own high bar in our backyard with some lumber and a steel pipe. It wasn't fancy, but I used it for years, and it's still one of the greatest gifts I can remember from my childhood.
Not all of us possess the talents to build things for our kids, but whenever we can nurture their dreams and show them we support them in any way, it's always a good thing, even if it doesn't appear quite as impressive as this bed.
In what ways do you nurture your kids' dreams? Is this the coolest bed you've ever seen?
