Jennifer Garner Voted 'Best Celebrity Mom of 2012' (Surprise, Surprise)

by Jacqueline Burt on December 31, 2012 at 6:41 PM

jennifer garnerYou'll never guess who was voted Celebrity Mom of 2012! It's ... oh, you guessed: Jennifer Garner. Got it on the first try, too! Probably because, well, of course Jennifer Garner got voted celeb mom of the year. The 40-year-old actress has 3 adorable kids (Violet, Seraphina and baby Samuel). Literally every photo ever snapped of the family show them doing something wholesome and fun and enriching that makes the whole lot of them smile their big, dimpled smiles and laugh and frolic and AWWWW. So, congrats to Garner on the prestigious award! And to her runner-up, Reese Witherspoon.

Seriously, I don't begrudge these ladies their good mom gold stars, but I do have to wonder ...

More from The Stir: Jennifer Garner Has a Message for Mean Moms

Why did two of Hollywood's most vanilla leading ladies get most of the votes? I mean, out of all the celeb moms out there, Garner and Witherspoon have got to be the two who would look most at home with an apron and a Betty Crocker cookbook circa 1952. Not that there's anything wrong with that. But there are plenty of less-traditional types who are most likely just as maternal. What about Angelina Jolie? Or Michelle Williams? Or Katie Holmes? You know, moms who've had some struggles but keep on keepin'on anyway. (Not that Jennifer Garner and Reese Witherspoon haven't had any struggles, but, you get the idea.)

Do unconventional moms still make people uncomfortable?

Who would be your pick for Best Celebrity Mom of 2012?

If we were basing our votes on pictures and news stories, I would have to go with Garner and Witherspoon, too- and not just because they're "conventional," whatever that means...  Michelle Williams seems like a lovely mother- and her child is hardly ever in papparazzi pics so kudos to her.   Angelina Jolie has two nannies per child- give me a break.  Katie Holmes spends more on her child's wardrobe than the GDP of most countries.

If more moms took the traditional route, society wouldn't have the problems it does

So you have to struggle to not be vanilla and to earn the award?
Reese Witherspoon divorced her cheating husband and was a single mother for many years. Pretty sure that was not a skip through butterfly speckled gardens.
Personally I would rather be a Jennifer Garner style mom than an Angelina Jolie or most of the people out there really.
Vanilla works just fine for me.

conventional parenting is what makes me uncomfortable. In the UK, Gina Ford is the top selling parenting writer, her book essentially details how to neglect and abuse your children in their first year or two of life.

I would pick Garner or Witherspoon over the others that you suggested too! They both seem like great mothers and most likely will have better raised kids than someone who is "unconventional".  I don't know what is wrong with having a "conventional" and "vanilla" lifestyle.  I would much rather have that then tons of drama in my life.

For me, it's Katie Holmes, hands down. She saw that Suri was going to go to a crazy-ass cult school and DIVORCED the man of her dreams, who by then was probably fairly scary in his own right and did it so well he didn't even see it coming. She got Suri out of there, and that beats all the pumpkin patches-sleepovers-cookie-baking there is.
