2-Year-Old Goes Home After Spending Entire Life in Hospital (VIDEO)

Awww! 17

Adalynn WillettLittle Adalynn Willett has left the only home she's ever known, but there are nothing but happy tears to be shed about this move. The 2-year-old had spent all 850 days of her life in the Cook Children's Medical Center in Dallas, but this week she defied all odds and went to her real home in Abilene, Texas, with her parents.

According to WFAA, Adalynn was born with a condition called Omphalocele, which caused her intestines and her liver to grow on the outside of her body. In her short life, she has been through 28 surgeries and numerous potentially deadly complications. Most babies born with her condition don't survive, but Adalynn amazingly has, and now she is embarking on a whole new journey in the world, which she had only seen from a window for so long.

Her father, Bryan Willett, told the station.

I never thought we were going to make it this far. I always hoped for it, but I never thought this day would come. It is a very exciting day.

My son spent the first three months of his life in the hospital, and it was excruciatingly heartbreaking and painful. I'll never forget the day we finally got to take him home, and the intense feelings of joy, fear, and sadness at what he'd had to go through before we got to that day. There was also some sadness at leaving the people who cared for him and the place that had become a home of sorts. But mostly it was just pure happiness that finally he was home where he should have been all of that time.

So I can relate to some degree, but I can only imagine how it would feel after almost three years. Adalynn still has some health struggles ahead, but at least she's home with her family where she'll surely be able to fight with more strength than ever. Good for her; good for them. You can bet this holiday season will be the best they've ever had
