You mean the noodles AREN'T magic?
Lying is bad. I think we can all agree on that, right? Lying is not a good thing, and lying to your kids is a particularly not-good thing. Except the truth is (ha!), sometimes kids give you no choice! I mean, it's not like you can reason with the willful little things. We all do it to some degree or another -- I even knew one sleep-deprived dad who told his little boy that monsters would eat himif he got out of bed in the middle of the night.
Granted, that's a bit extreme and the poor kid probably has deep emotional scars, but honestly (ha!)? If you've ever uttered the words "Santa Claus is watching" to your child, you really can't judge. So don't bother denying your deceptive ways -- laugh at them instead.

hahaha!!! I once told my daughter, whense was like 3 and didn't want to shower that the "boshee-boshee" was checking to see if kids were showering and she just ran in there. OH, and when she doesn't want to get out of the shower, I tell her the water patrol will come and give us a ticket, she still believes this one.
I've never lied to my kids.....I pretty much think it's moronic. Just tell your kids the truth and teach them how to deal with their emotions instead of lying to avoid the behavior---DEAL WITH IT and help your child deal with it.
Actually I have NEVER said any of those to my children. I drink sweet coffee, but so they would not like it I gave it to them black...problem solved. My kids think Santa makes toys for Wal-mart. I guess my guilty lie is telling my kids there is a Santa in the first place. But as for the rest of them NOPE. I bought the noise making toy I sure am going to get my moneys worth (their bedroom door shuts. I tell them if they don't brush their teeth they will have cavities and they will have to go to the dentist to have their mouths fixed and that could hurt....(when they are little I say brush your teeth so you dont get cavities and cause your mouth to hurt). I don't lie about food or shots or anything along those lines. I tell my kids they do not need to watch tv right now when I do not want to watch something or I will say it is Mommy's turn. And I tell my kids to pick up their things cause if I do it I will have a trash bag and everything that goes into the bag goes to the trash. I think I may be missing something, but not everyone does this....I make it a point to always tell my kids the truth. I want them to trust me....I guess that could all be broken when they realize Santa, the Easter Bunny, and the tooth fairy are not real, but 3 out of 6 of my kids already know and they still play along so I dont think they are too scared by that.
I have an autistic 6 year old and a typical 20 month old. My 6 year old notices EVERYTHING so it's hard to lie to him. But there are some cases like tonight we had speghetti with sausage in it, and to him it was brown ham, cause he eats ham. But the one i tell my 20 month old is 'all gone' to avoid the meltdowns when she's reached her cookie, candy, or pickle limit.
I have honestly never said a single one of these to my child. My husband and I never lie to her about anything, never have or will. I really hate it when parents lie to their kids, even if it seems innocent. You might be surprised at the fact that they don't need to be lied to to get them to do what you want, or eat what you want etc. We have always told her if she is eating fish (not lied and said it was chicken) and guess what? She loves fish. I could go on and on..but you get the point. A person's a person no matter how small! So don't lie to your little person!
I don't lie to my son I tell him even at 2 that if he doesn't pick up his toys mommy is gonna throw them in the trash and she will, I don't typically have things to drink that he can't and he only drinks water, milk and juice and he knows mommy has his hows recorded but he has to behave to watch them....
